Ant tips on running a new sewer line from my house? This weekend I have a backhoe guy coming and will run a a new sewer line from my house to the main sewer because the clay pipe has collapsed. iI only plan on doing about half of the line to cut down on expense. I plan on using the rubber "boots" on both ends to convert to 4" plastic. any tips from someone who has experience in this?
How to find the main sewer line? I have a house that was built in the '60s and would like to have a new sewer line tied into the main for my washing machine. There is a cap on the carport wall for access into the line but I can't find one in the yard. Will there be a map in the county records or something? As an aside, it took the water guy 3 hours to find the water main b/c it was around the corner and down the street (once the original property but not anymore). If it makes a difference, the house is on a slab. The plumbers have not been able to find it either.
How do I open a sewer line that is slow draining? My sewer line drains really slow but it does drain. The problem is when I do laundry and then have a huge influx of water when the washer drains. If I first drain the water into a laundry tub and then release it slowly it does go down. Is there anything that I can do to alleviate this problem?
Does a water softener help keeps roots out of sewer line? I have read information about rock salt helping to keep roots from growing in sewer sewer line, or copper sulfate which is also a salt. Would installing a water softener help to keep roots from growing in a sewer line? I would think it would work if you set the softener to discharge late a night so that the salty water had a chance to work on the roots.
How do you install a sewer line? Home to main sewer line.
i have to replace a main sewer line anyone know what i should look for in a plumber? it's time to replace the sewer line that goes from my house to the sidewalk. all i know is that i want a clean out installed at the house. anyone know of what else i should get and what i need to do?
Is there a way to get rid of roots in main sewer line? Once or twice a year my sinks/toilets slow down and I have to have a plumber clean out my main line. The last two times they have said that because of roots in my sewer line (big pipe from house to city sewer line) there isn't much they can do. One plumber said $3000 to replace the sewer line. So, is there anything I can do to get rid of the roots or at least abate the problem for a year or two? Thanks!
Blocked sewer line from house to street. How do I get it unbloced? Now I hear from Roto Rooter that they have cleared the line right excatly to the main sewer and by law they cannot clean an inch further. Still my line from house is blocked. Where do I turn next as the city says the main line is open and its a "valve" at the exact connect point that is the culpret here and its not their responsibility. Its been two weeks and I need to use my toilets and showers.
Should I dig up the sewer line? Last year, the house we live in was required to give up its septic tank and hook into the new city sewers (we already had city water). My hubby and I did not own the house yet, so the old owner had the sewer hooked up. I wanted one of those thingies put in the line that keeps the sewer from backing up into the house (prevents flooding). But the old owner didn't have it done. Now we own the house and are responsible for everything. I have been through a flood before (caused by backed up sewers) and I never want to go through that again. It would devastate our lives. We aren't in a flood-prone area, so my only worry is that sewer line. Should I pay to have the line dug up and one of those thingies installed? I know it costs about $75, but the labor would be a killer! Any thoughts on this?
Any opinions on sewer cleaning companies in City of Poughkeepsie, NY. I have a clogged main sewer line? I have a clogged main sewer line that is leaking in my basement. About 6 months ago, I had it snaked. Looks like it's repeating. The house is old. I have replaced the sewer line from cast iron to PVC inside my basement but the line going from the basement to the city line (underground) is still cast iron. Any opinion on a honest local maintenance company will be appreciated. Thanks
I need to add a bathroom in my house. How much will it cost to attach the waste line to my sewer line? The toliet is on a first floor exterior wall. The waste line will not connect to any sewer line in the house, but will connect to the line where the sewer line comes off the street into the house. I just need an estimation for this. I know it's hard to say without looking. Thanks
What is the avg cost to have a plumber, not rooter, to clean out roots in a sewer line in Cent. Arkansas? I have used rooter svcs in the past they are ok but usually want to add on services to make extra money. Any idea what plumber charge for the same service in Central Arkansas? I have roots in sewer line that need to be removed.
How can I get rid of tree roots in my sewer line? TRY REX-BAC-T or COPPER SULFATE? I have tree roots inside my clay sewer line, and Im tired of renting machines to unclog the drain twice a year. I found this product in the internet "REX-BAC-T", I wonder if anyone has used this product before and if so how well it worked or any other product that will solve my dilema. I need ideas, I read that cooper sulfate will keep the roots away, but Im not sure if it will work, there is a website with instructions on how to do this treatment..... Ideas please. (I dont want to kill the tree)
sewer line connect to the main? I have a septic tank and want to connect to the main sewer line far away from the house about 100 ft. Anyone know who the contractors I can call? I live in Lynnwood, washington. thank you.
How much does it cost to install 80 ft. of sewer line? Marco Island, FL is assessing me over $16,000 to install sewer line in front of my vacant 100 X 80 lot.
Our main sewer line is clogged we tried augers and enzymes and it still won't unclog, any suggestions? When we flush our toilets, the water comes back up through a shower. We have tried an Auger, a snake, and enzymes, but nothing has worked. We think the clog is definitely in the main line. Is there any product that would work better for cleaning Main Sewer lines?
I want to install washer/dryer in basement, how does waste water get pumped to sewer line in ceiling? The basement has a water heater in it, the house has the connections for the washer in the kitchen area upstairs The plumbing/pipes for the house are exposed in the basement ceiling. One of my concerns is how the water from the washer is pumped up into the sewer line in the ceilling
which is better for a sewer line cleaning a enzyme or living living bateria? I'm looking to maintain my sewer line and I dont want to use and acid like liquid plumber or draino, so I was wondering which one of these would be better.an enzyme or living bateria (for some reason I think they are the same)
is water and sewer line insurance scam? i just recently bought a new house and a few months later the water company keep sending me notices and warnings that the sewer and water line outside my house connecting to the main line - aren't covered for any repairs or ruptures and that i am liable - so they are offering me insurance for that for $12 a month. my question is ..is that a scam or you guys think its worth it?
does copper wire in a sewer line kill tree roots? putting copper wire in a home sewer line ,to kill tree roots ...IS it true?
I had a cracked sewer line. how much should it cost to dig down and repair? sewer line extends from the rear of house to the city sewer line which runs behind my house. It was dug through dirt approximately 4-5ft. in depth. A length of approximately 5ft of pipe was replaced. It was cast iron but was replaced by pvc i live in new jersey
sewer line clogging up with roots;does copper sulfate(Root Clear) help or do damage--older home? Don't want to auger out--too much danger of collapsing sewer lines. Does the chemical work? It claims not to damage trees/shrubs.
Replacing residential sewer line from house to main? I am having to replace my lateral line from the house to the city main. Sewer line. Not sure about process, not able to fine info on net. Help, suggestions, tips???????????
Do most standard home owners insurances cover sewer line breaks (not sewage backups)? I see a plethora of information out there, even in my own policy, that makes it clear that sewage backups are usually not covered. However, I do not have a backup. I have a sewer line under my basement slab that is broken - most likely due to age and shifting. The plumbers are still tearing up my house to fix it, so I am not ready to file the claim yet. My plumber told me that since it is not a sewage backup and the pipe is actually broken, they will cover the costs to dig down and get to it and to cover it back up, but not the parts for the pipe. He said this is usually the case in his experience and he's been in the business for 45 years. I want to believe him, but I'm afraid I could be stuck with a $8k bill.
What should I look for concerning a possible backed up water sewer line? I suspect the ejector pump has failed, or tree roots are blocking the line. Everytime someone takes a dump, it tends to smell near the ejector well, and the smell seems to seep up to the toilets. The smell passes after an hour or so, which leads me to think there is some flow, but it is backed up?
Slab home, replacing cast iron sewer line with PVC? We have a slab home and one of our sinks drain is completely stopped up. The plumber tried to snake it out and failed. He said he found mud when he pulled the snake back out, and thinks that the iron pipe probably rotted through. However none of the other drains in the house seem to have any problems. He will return with a camera to check it out for certain on Monday (no additional charge) *IF* the pipe is rotted out, he suggests tunneling under the slab to replace the damaged pipe - and considering the age of the house (1962), he suggests replacing all of the iron pipe with PVC all the way to the sewer main. Furthermore he suggests running the new line around the house rather than under it in order to minimize a chance of foundation problems due to excessive tunneling. What do you think of his proposed solution, and how much should such a repair cost?
what is the best way to clear a blocked sewer line? i have a bathroom in the basement and when ever i run the water in the house anywhere it comes up thru the toilet in the basement so there is a clog somewhere how do unblock the line
There's a small tree growing directly on top of the sewer line, Should I dig it out? The sewer pipe runs about 2 feet underground. I heard the tree roots could eventually break the pipe and clog it. Is this true?
Sewer line pump a good idea? Our plumber suggested putting in a sewer line pump in the basement floor to force sewage through a low spot in our residential line to reach the main line. The cost is about $6000 less than digging up the yard & he assures us it will do the job. Does anyone have experience with this kind of pump...effective, reliable, etc.?
My sump pump drains into my sewer line. Why is this bad? Both my sump pump and my A/C condensate pump drain into my city sewer drain. I've been told this is bad & illegal but nobody knows why. Anyone?
Clothes washer discharge / drain hookup to sewer line? The drain pipe leading to the sewer drain is about 3-4 feet above the washer. Can I hook up to it though it is this far above the washer?
how much should I expect to pay to have my sewer line replaced? We've had trouble with our bathroom getting clogged and it would be great to have a bigger sewer out (we've an oldhouse).
how can I get homeowners insurance to pay for broken sewer line? Plumber tells me line is broken in to & must be replaced.
Odd plumbing? I have a sump pump that is connected to my sewer line! why would anyone do that? If you follow the pipes, they eventually hook into the main sewer pipe. It appears to be leaking. Can I just seal it off at the main pipe. Any logical reason this backup pipeline exists? This was set up to empty a washer into the municipal sanitary system. It leaks a little because it is not plugged in, and probably catches a little backup now and then. The other sump pump properly drains out to the local ditch. I rigged my washer to directly empty into the sump hole, and out to the ditch. Is that legal?
What is sewer tubing that replace deteriorating sewer line without tearing up the lawn? I AM TOLD THAT THERE IS A TYPE OF SEWER PIPING MATERIAL , NEW TO THE MARKET, THAT CAN BE INSERTED FROM THE STREET SEWER HOOKUP WITHOUT TEARING UP THE LAWN. ANYONE KNOW WHAT IT IS CALLED?
Should we replace our sewer line with PVC or ABS? There is a crack in the existing cast iron sewer line and we need to replace 40 feet. My uncle said to get PVC because you can hear the water/sewage run through the ABS. The plumber said that is really only true for two+ story homes or if the pipe is underground. We have a one story ranch with a crawl space. The price is the same, but we'd have to specifically request PVC from the plumber.
Does homeowners insurance cover replacing broken sewer line? I've had trouble with stopped up sewer line from my house to water main about once a year since moved to house 1997. Plumber has been able to temporarily clean out the line each time, but we have come to the point that it must be replaced. It apparently is cracked or broken probably from tree roots. I can't locate anything in policy that states whether the sewer line is considered part of home. I also have been having electrical problems such as flickering lights & some outlets don't work & electric company says trouble is in house. Should I wait before filing a claim on that, or is it OK to file 2 seperate claims at once? Also, is there time limit or can I go back to when these problems started years ago? Never filed a claim befor in my life. Deductible is $1500.00.
What could be clogging my main sewer line? I had Roto Rooter come out to clear my main drain. They said they went 80 ft out and could go any further. They are now wanting to put a camera in to investigate further. Am I looking at some major work to fix this problem? Could there be a simple solution to fix this? There are a few trees. The big ones have been pulled out. Our house is more than 50 years old.
Can a washing machine be plumbed into a sewer line.? My washing machine pump recently stoped working. My husband now wants to plumb it into our sewer drain, We are just curious if this is possible.
Video camera for my sewer line? Rescue Rooter cleaned up my sewer drain last week (I know nothing about sewers, so I just picked first company to do the job...). During the cleaning (which cost me whooping $254 for one hour of work!), guy mentioned to me that I might have broken sewer pipe under my driveway (which might be true - I also suspect that because of some other factors). He recommends me to run video camera into my pipe to see what is in there. I was wondering if anyone knows some other company that does it as well? - I am looking for someone who does video for free? - I most likely will have same guy who does video do the repairs.... I also need to have my sewers cleaned with "jet water" (whatever that means - I understand they run water down the pipe really fast...). House is in 94546 zip code. Can I also please have some range estimates? - One Co. gave me an estimate (geez - if I charge THAT per hour, I would be leaving next to Bill G.!), another company wants $29.99 just to give an estimate - ridiculous. Estimates should be free... So, what would be the range for the job? I think I might have problem with either with pipe or with "container" (pipe from house to place covered by "gate" that hosts "container" and then from "container" to street). My neighbors keep telling me that they think water from my sewer gets on their property, so I sort of need camera inside for all of us to have peace of mind.
I have had a problem with roots breaking into my house sewer line and causing plumbing problems with back up? Does anyone have any suggestions on what to put in the lines to keep these roots killed out?
How can I make a turn of less than 10 degrees when building a PVC sewer line? At Home Depot, they only have special elbows at around 22 degrees. I appreciate any help, and if you need any more info, please ask as I'm really interested in finding out how this is done. It is a 4 inch diameter pipe. Any websites for smaller angle fittings would also be appreciated.
how much drop per 50' run for main sewer line to septic tank? & how much drain field size for 1000 gal tank. Which league do you play for? We did a perk test on the one that we installed next door 6 yrs ago, however the septic tank that we installed there had to be 2500 gallons for the school & we extended the drain fields at the time. My main question is how much drop per 50' for the 4" line. I forgot.
Will a sewer line freeze? My sewer line that goes from my house to the septic tank is only a few inches underground. Will it ever freeze up? I live in ohio.
how much would a plumbing contractor charge to lay 80 feet of 4 inch sewer line? approximately how much should a plumbing contractor charge to lay 80 feet of 4 inch sewer line in the state of California and the digging is a moderate level challenge
I broke a green sewer line. What is it? I have new land where I am grading. All the homes have septic systems. I was digging a whole for a tree, 4' from the street and sort of in between a power transformer and a street light. About 10-12 inches from the surface was a green sewer line, about 6-8 inch diameter. The line appears to be empty. I broke the line with the back hoe. What do you think this line is? Should I fix it? I dont' think it's someones septic lines because it's on my property, and it's not leach lines. Could it be some kind of drainage for something? What are your thoughts?
Cost to have main sewer line cleaned, like Roto Rooter? Having some plumbing problems. The shower and toilet will not drain at all, and when doing laundry the water backs up in to the shower. I've had this problem before, and it was due to clogged pipes - tree roots. Does anyone know how much it normally costs to have the main line cleaned (I do have a clean-out access outside). I've tried to look on Roto-rooter and similar websites, but nobody gives any kind of rough estimate.
I Hired a plumber to replace 100 foot of sewer line which he did and now I have sink hole I have called him? I Have a sink hole and I have Called him may of time since? trying to get it corrected, He has lied to me all the time. I will call the county, and the BBB, and then file suit for breech of contract,do you think this help
I have a sewer line I have had to snake about every 3 months, now I get huge handfulls of gravel on each pull. I have had to snake this for years, no biggie over time, but now we have gravel in each pass of the snake, I did it 5 times in a row and each time the same amount, so, is the most probably scenario a busted pipe? There has been major construction nearby, but wasnt sure if others lines pass thru ours. If a busted pipe, what's the worst case scenario?
Our sewer line was clogged by fabric/dryer sheets. We never flush fabric, where could it have come from? Our rental house was experiencing a clog so our landlord called the plumbers. They snaked out to the main sewer line in the yard and found a fabricy/dryer sheet like substance. Problem is we never use dryer sheets or flush fabric (no kids either). Now the landlord is blaming us for the clog- is there any other way this could have gotten into our line besides from us? We recently had very heavy rains in the area (causing something on the order of 100-year flooding).
Why does my sewer line clean-out keep popping off even though screwed on tightly? It keeps happening and sewage will come out of the clean out though the clean-out. I've screwed it on tightly and it keeps happening. There is no sewage back-up in the house. All of the toilets flush fine.
Backed up sewer line......? I cleaned out my sewer line inside the house, got a lot of gunk out. I thought I was done and this morning, helping around house, I was doing a wash load, took cap off open sewer line too see if it was clear-when the washer was letting water out...wam..back up again...poured harsh chemicals in line , used high pressure hose and plunger. Then I thought I'd check outside--sure enough gunk coming from outside trap....Now I think that the line is clogged from house to street...I removed concrete covering and started digging...2 feet down--water...I know there's a trap there--seen it, but I think line is clogged there.....My ques: Is there a very harse chemical I can use? I've used Nitrate Acid and that help some, but I'm sure there has to be somethingelse out there!! HELP--MAN IT STINKS!!!!
Sewer Line Clogged? My sewer line is clogged... I think. Attached to the sewer line are three things. 1. Upstairs. A toilet, shower, sink 2. Downstairs. A sump pump 3. Also downstairs. A washer machine. 2 and 3 are hooked to same pipe The washer machine was draining into the pipe when...holy crap... water shoots to the ceiling from the washer machine drain.. To diagnose the problem I: a)put water in the sump pump to kick it on....more water on the ceiling.... b)flushed toilet...water half way to ceiling c)used sink and shower...water raised a little over the washer drain.. To fix it i snaked from the toilet..my nearest guess is i got ten feet down...couldnt find a clog but the snake would go no further. I imagine it is a bend in the pipe the snake is unwilling to make it past. i tried snaking through. the washer drain... too many bends.. ok...i imagine the problem is below where upstairs and downstairs connect since toilet water made it downstairs...then the ceiling.... anyone have a solution...? Yes... I thought of calling a plumber..but would like to save the cash.. i'm cheap...i;ve heard flushing a cup of rock solt gets rid of roots....i am terrified at roots ruining my pipes... in response to the rude comment (#2) as far as the use of TP.. I use bunnies..not TP..contribute or move on..smart comments are not appreciated. the cleanout plug is inaccessible. The genious who designed this house decided the best place for a lowboy water heater would be almost directly in front of the clean out plug........the water heater piping is welded in place..
What should I do about my broken sewer line? I live in Houston, Tx. in a house that was built in 1959. A plumber came out to snake out the sewer line that serves my kitchen and laundry room. About 5ft into the line he kept hitting mud and told me the pipe was broken. It is a cast iron sewer pipe. He quoted me $1400 to dig from the side of the house up under the slab and patch the pipe. I called another plumber and he said it was better to replace the entire line. He quoted me $3000 to bury a new sewer line along the side of the house and connect to the main line going out to the city sewer. Should I patch? replace? call another plumber? any other ideas?
Main Sewer Line Under My House - Is this unhealthy? Revised? My house was built in '77, the plot of land our house is on was never to be sold or built on. Our house is sitting on top of the main sewer line for our subdivision. The pipes have been there since '58, when the other houses in the subdivision were built. The water and sewer co. is going to close off the pipes that are underneath and reroute them around our house. Is the soil underneath my house contaminated? We had to have our crawl space treated for mold, but no one could tell where the mold originated. Me and my little girls have had hives, sinus problems and dizziness since moving in here two years ago. Could there be a connection? What does the water company do with the existing pipes under the house when they close them off? Our house should have never been built and no one will help us, the building commissioner said "the guy who signed off on the plumbing for the house is dead and so is the builder, you're out of luck". Can anyone offer any advise?
Sewer Line Repair? My pvc Sewer Line is fine except for the part that is under my tree, it is bending there. How much should digging about 8-10 feet down and correcting this cost? it's about 80 feet
Sewer line replacement/repacking trench? We recently replaced our sewer line and are left with a 2-3 foot high mountain range of dirt in our front yard. Will this go away with settling or do we need to have our plumbers pack it down more before we pay them? The trench was roughly 10 foot deep and the contract said they would smooth it to ground level and mound for settling. Is 2-3 foot of dirt necessary for that? Thanks for the reply.
HELP!!! If you hit your neighbors' sewer line that ran through your property could your neighbors sue you??? We were trenching on our side yard being careful not to hit our sewer line. Well unfortunately we did, but not bad. So we stopped worrying about hitting our sewer line and then we hit another pipe. We think it may be our neighbors' sewer line and it's completely cracked. Would we get in trouble for it???
Repairing Leaking Sewer Line? Long story, I'll try to make it simple. There is a hole in our basement wall where we can see out under the yard. We were planning on filling this cavity with dirt or concrete when we noticed a leak. That leak is coming from a stoneware sewer line. The line isn't damaged -- the leak is coming from a joint between two pipes. What is my best course of action? I've called a couple plumbers to have them take a look at it. I'd be happiest if there was some kind of sealant I could put on the pipe since I can see and reach it (but I'm probably not going to be that lucky).
city sewer line? my sewer line has clappesd under the towns st. every place around here has it that the town would be responseable. the town says we are. does anyone know if they can do that?
Install Utility Sink with Drainage to Elevated Sewer Line? I want to install a utility sink in the basement and have a few questions before I begin. Here's where I am: There used to be a special photography sink that was already removed before I moved in, so the necessary pipes are all in place, albeit higher than normal. I have no problem tapping into the existing supply lines and have done this before. However, the drainage that was left behind, currently a capped PVC P-trap that runs into the main sewer line (a large black plastic pipe), is about 30" off of the ground; much too high to fit neatly under my utility sink. Also, the sewer line that I would drain into is high in this room as well, about 24". Shouldn't there be a downhill grade from my sink drain to the sewer line? Do I need to do something special for proper drainage? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
How much does it cost to remove roots from sewer line mechanically? I have a plumber coming out tomorrow (Wed) to give me an estimate on mechanicall removing roots from my sewer line. I don't have time to get multiple quotes and would like to give him the green light to proceed if the price is reasonable, but I don't know what a reasonable price is. My sewer line is about 150 feet long and probably pretty overgrown. Has anyone had this done? If so, what did you pay and how long was your sewer line? P.S. I've looked into chemicals like copper sulfide and rootX, but it appears that you are better of removing roots with mechanical auger first, then keeping things in check with annual chemical treatments. Also, a year ago one plumber quoted me $3000 for installation of a new sewer line, but I would like to postpone that.
Softball in sewer line!!? My son dropped a softball in our sewer line in the backyard, now our drains inside are clogging up. My husband has tried sticking the hose of a shop vac down in there to try to suction it out, but he had no luck. Does anyone have any ideas to try to get this out on our own without having to call a plumber?
Roots in sewer line, insurance, and price.? I moved into a house Saturday that I just bought and discovered my sewer line drains real slow and upon snaking it discovered roots in it. I called my insurance (first house, didn't know) and of course it's not covered. I know my options are yearly augering and chemicals or total repair. Clearly, first house, I'm hardcore broke. My boyfriend wants to rent an industiral snake and do it ourselves. I'm scared though we have busted pipes and if it bursts and damages the house insurance won't pay a penny because they knew I knew there was a problem. I would hate to repair, but don't want to put an 300 dollar bank aid on it via roto rooter every year. If this were your house what would you do?
More on the trenching and hitting the neighbors' sewer line!!!? We had NO CLUE their sewer line ran through our property. Our well went dry and we've been dealing with that all summer. We've already invested over 3 grand on it and still have hardly any water (hooked up to OTHER neighbors' well). We had to trench from the house to the new well and that's when it happened. We have had a location test from the city, but they NEVER told us our neighbors' sewer ran through OUR yard. Both supposedly turn so this makes it very hard to get an exact location on it... We are so frustrated, but this just happened and we can't exactly repair their pipe when we're in this situation... I don't think they'll sue, but I don't see how we could get in trouble when no one ever pointed out where their sewer line is!
Could i have broken a sewer line while digging my garden? I live in a duplex and was digging by the side of my house today about 8 inches deep. i noticed by the side of the house was a concrete slab jutting out about four inches from the side of the house. I kept digging in front of it, and for a minute i thought i smelled something nasty. Later on my neighbor was standing in front of my yard and remarked " Something smells like dookie out here". Am i just being paranoid or is it possible i busted a sewer line or something equally as bad? I dug without my landlords consent, so now i'm really worried i've done something terrrible and expensive to fix, not to mention i had my bare hands in poo. possibly. please please help!
Can a drain auger clear a clog in a main sewer line? I have a pretty solid clog in my main sewer line. If I flush the toilet, it comes out of the drain in the garage floor. Likewise with every other drain in the house. I have dumped bleach and (later) enzymes down my drains, but don't hold much hope that they will work. A friend has a nifty drain auger called a Ridgid auto-spin that has a cable only 1/4" and is designed for drain pipes up to 1 1/2". If I stick this down my garage floor drain (the closest to the city sewer connection), will it help or will it just tie itself in knots in a 4" line? This is not a root problem. No trees anywhere near. I figure the clog is just buildup and paper. I would like to use this little machine because it has sleeves around the cable that keep it from splashing. I am fairly certain it is long enough (30') to get to the main sewer.
is this a reasonable price to replace main sewer line? I live in upstate NY I just had Duke's plumbing here to unclogg the main line. we have this issue a couple times a year. also the vent pipe is under an over hang on the house and a pain to get to. there isn't another clean out and the house sits 110 ft from the road. he gave me an estimate of $5700.00 for them to dig and run a new sewer line from house to road 110 ft, move the vent from under the over hang put a new trap in and a new clean out at 75ft. not sure if this is a fair price.
property damage cause tree roots enter tru city sewer and cause line blockage flood house? had sewer line on property replaced two years ago . and had a sewer backup flood basment . walls and clothing damaged and cracking of foundation.edmonton risk management states no way to prove whos tree roots caused obstrution. the work crew stated it was city tree roots as some how their is about two feet of old cast iron pipeon the city side of water valve as mine replaced with plastic pipe to city valve. I need help with what if any recourse is available to me.thanks cliff.
Can a dryer be vented to the sewer line? When having a home inspection of the condo that we are in the process of purchasing, we found that the dryer was vented directly into the basement ( where the dryer is located ). There are no windows and we do not yet know if we would be allowed to cut a hole to vent to the outside of our unit. The home inspector suggested that we maybe able to vent to the sewer line, which is located next to the dryer. He said that the pipe was large enough. Would anyone have any information on how this works, what conditions make it possible to do, and what any drawbacks maybe? Thank you
Does anyone know how much it would cost to repair a 4" section of my main sewer line that connects to street? A plumber came out to clear my main sewer line and upon inspection found that a 4" piece of the pipe was cracked with roots growing in there. The piece is right new where it connects to the city connection. He said the pipe would have to be replaced and estimated $5,000. This is a home we just bought and knew nothing about. The plumber said there had been previous work done to the pipe within the last 5 years. The previous owner put in the down stairs bathroom, he should've known about this shouldn't he? Do I have any recourse to get any money out of him for the repairs?
Copper Sulfate vs Rock Salt for tree roots in sewer line? Home Depot etc. sell copper sulfate crystals for tree roots in sewer lines. Plumbers seem to recommend rock salt for the same purpose. Everyone seems to agree that copper sulfate works better. But does that take the cost into account? Ten pounds of copper sulfate might be a lot more effective than ten pounds of rock salt, but is $10 worth of copper sulfate more effective than $10 worth of rock salt?
