What is the difference between a sewer pump and a sump pump? And how do you tell which one you've got? From what I have read, it seems like they are exactly the same thing. They both can pump clean water and waste water. My home warranty covers sump pumps, but not sewer pumps. I believe we have a grinder pump with blades, but it is pumped to the sewer system.
what kind of residential sewer system compressor pump do I need? I recently bought a house with its own personal sewer system. My toilet started backing up and bubbling when I run water out of the tub. I now noticed that the compressor umb is not running. What is wrong. I think the pump not running is the problem, but I do not know where and what kindof pumb to buy. I took the serial number and part number off the not working pump? Where should I go from here. signed female cavewoman.
Sewer line pump a good idea? Our plumber suggested putting in a sewer line pump in the basement floor to force sewage through a low spot in our residential line to reach the main line. The cost is about $6000 less than digging up the yard & he assures us it will do the job. Does anyone have experience with this kind of pump...effective, reliable, etc.?
are sump in are basement doesnt have a pump.we want to put one in looks like this was hooked to the sewer.? there are 2 pipes coming in 1 is higher than the other other are they both bringing ground water in or does 1 bring it in and the other lets it out. usually are basment gets wet 2x a yr so thats why we want to add the pump hoping this helps. looks like they have caped the pipe to the sewer. but if one of the other pipes brings the water out cant we just hook the pump up and send it out that pipe or should we put it out the wall and into the yard. any suggestions.
Zoeller Sewer/Sump Pump dripping in Basement? This pump is about 8 inches below my septic line. It started dripping water from the pipe that contains the electrical supply for the pump. The water smells horrible!! What has happen to this thing? Hope you guys have some advise for me... The plumber told me I needed an electrician before he could come!!
Odd plumbing? I have a sump pump that is connected to my sewer line! why would anyone do that? If you follow the pipes, they eventually hook into the main sewer pipe. It appears to be leaking. Can I just seal it off at the main pipe. Any logical reason this backup pipeline exists? This was set up to empty a washer into the municipal sanitary system. It leaks a little because it is not plugged in, and probably catches a little backup now and then. The other sump pump properly drains out to the local ditch. I rigged my washer to directly empty into the sump hole, and out to the ditch. Is that legal?
How much to get a sewer tank pumped? I think it needs it, I kepep smelling a foul odor, but it is coming from the washer room, it goes away after I wash clothes, but the stagnent smell comes back, Also noticed the toilet back up one day, and sink drains slow...Mind me, I just moved into this place less than a month ago, so did I cause this already?
Ejector pump tank full of water, after replacement with a new one, why? In my basement, there is an ejector pump to pump water to the sewer. It pumped water very slowly. I called a plumber, and he told me I need to replace the ejector pump. He charged me $550 for this job. Two days after, the pump is not working, the water continued to go thru the pump and won't stop. We had to turn off the pump to stop the continued water pumping. The plumber came again today and he said there are two problems, that he did not diagnose before: 1) In the room where the water softener is, there is one pipe that is connected to ejector pump, there is a blockage in the pipe, which slowed down the pumping water out to the sewer. He has fixed this blockage today. 2) The 2nd issue is the container/tub (ejector pump tank) was full of water, and he is not sure why that happened. He said the tank was not full of water, the first time when he came last week to give estimate. But when he came the 2nd time to replace the ejector pump, he said the tank was full of water, so as today. He asked us to keep an eye on it, in case the tank is full of water again. I do not like his answer, that means he does not know how to fix it, and charged me with $550. Can you help with this situation. Do you know what could possibly wrong to cause the ejector pump tank to be full of water, even after he replaced with a new ejector pump. Thanks
How does a sump pump with in relation to a drainage system and sewer system? Does the stuff from the toilet & sink go in the sewer system and whatever water that seeps in from the ground go in the drainage system, or are they connected? If it all goes into the same system what is a sump pump for? Does it just deal with overflow (and the thought being no poop will rise that high)? What does it mean in one of the drains in the basement is flooding but the sump pump doesn't have a lot of water in it? Is there a clog between the drain and the sump pump or in the sewer? D'oh! I meant "How does a sump pump WORK in relation..."
Sewer Pumps upgrading? Hi, Please consider the scenario below: There is a Sewage pump station having 2 pumps in the wet well and 2 dry pumps (i.e. booster pumps) in the dry well next to t. Sewer comes into wet well and gets pumped to the dry well and gets pumped again out to the main. We want to get rid of the dry well and booster pumps but instead replace the wet well pumps with larger ones to handle the same conditoin (i.e. inlet sewer) each pair of pumps in each well are 1 duty (i.e. they don't run simultenously!) I have the duty point of wet well pumps and have the detailed existing design wit me. I also have the average run time (hours/day) for each well. therefore, I have already caclculated how much water will be delivered out of wet well in L/S. Since, I don;t have the duty point of Dry Well pumps, not sure what to do next. Could you please tell me how can I go about it? Thanks ok, I've just found out that dry well pumps have the same duty point as wet well pumps. so, now how should I go about it? Thanks
What happens when a sump pump is shooting water out the top of the outside pipes? My yard has a very damp area that I believe is being caused by my neighbors malfunctioning sump pump. You can hear the pump run and then water shoots out of the outside pipes on to the ground. My understanding is the water should be sent out a pipe into the water sewer. I believe this excess water is affecting the concrete in my yard. Any ideas?
do i need to pump d box in my leeching field? i have been having some nasty sewer smell for a while when we wash clothes and dishes. i heard it may be a blocked vent pipe, but some buddies of mine said that i might have to pump the d box in my leeching field? i didn't even know a leeching field had such a thing? is this true, do i have to pump this box in my leeching field?
Why does my sump pump pit smell? I have a sump pump pit in my basement. There is a large inlet into the pit that seems to be coming from the outside area, probably drain tile? Someone installed a car port and new concrete in back of the house and put in 2 drains that run into the pump. The pump pumps into a pipe upward that goes directly into the main drain sewer pipe. There is a trap in this pipe. There is allways a stinky smell coming from the pit. It appears the smell comes from the big inlet from the outside. When the pump evacuates the pit, the inlet whole is exposed above the water level. Is this a problem? Should that water be over the inlet hole? Any help please.
Can anyone tell me where to find a self contained shower stall with a pump? Years ago I recall seeing a self contained shower stall that had a pump and float valve in the base. It was designed for use in a basement where the sewer drain was higher than the floor. I can not seem to find one anywhere and the home centers all tell me they don't know where to get one. Does anyone know where I can get one or at least who makes them?
What should I look for concerning a possible backed up water sewer line? I suspect the ejector pump has failed, or tree roots are blocking the line. Everytime someone takes a dump, it tends to smell near the ejector well, and the smell seems to seep up to the toilets. The smell passes after an hour or so, which leads me to think there is some flow, but it is backed up?
we have a sewer smell only with cold weather? We have been experiencing a sewer smell with cold weather when we do the wash or take a shower. We have had the septic tank pumped. We have checked all drains and we have made sure that all drains are trapped. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? We don't have any water out back near the leech field so we know that its not backed up there. Thanks
How can I get over my rabbit dieing? He was only 1/12 years old. And he died yesterday because he fell down like a sewer pump thing in my basement and I didn't know until my dad looked in there and saw Thumper. I have had a lot of deaths in my life. And I'm really sad. What should I do..... I have another rabbit. I had two at the same time. But the one that died I had longer....
My neighbors sump pump is flooding my back yard...? I live in a newer sub-division and my neighbors sump pump drains into a vacant feild behind my house(not his), about 15 ft outside my back property line. We had different builders and mine drains into the sewer. The problem is in the spring or after a real heavy rain, the area around the drain floods and comes into my yard about 3ft in the corner. first, is it legat to drain your pump into a vacant feaild?, and second, does he legally have to fix this problem? I am not sure who owns the property behind us ....
What is the musty, sewer smell coming out of our home air conditioner? We have tried everything, had the septic tank pumped, had the vents cleaned, replaced the plenum. The smell only comes when the AC is running. If it is not running or the heater is on no smell. Only the downstairs unit, not the upstairs. It doesn't smell constantly. Usually only when the unit kicks on in the afternoon. We have had several plumbers out and no one can fix it. Please help! We love our house but are desparate!
In a hilly town, how does the sewer discharge in the underground pipes "go up hill" in places? It would not be possible for ALL sewer pipes underground to slant downward. Are pumps used? Unless you know the answer, don't answer, because your guess would be no better than mine. Please answer only if you are sure that you know. If pumps are used, I have never heard of them "breaking down" and causing a back up. And they would almost certainly "break down" every once in awhile.
sorry didn't ask my sump pump question correctly the first time? sorry earyl i asked a question about are sump must not have posted it correctly. we know that the pipe that is capped of goes to the sewer we had a camera cause we had a broken pipe and thats when we found we had the sump. besides the sewer pipe that is in the sump and is capped there are 2 other pvc pipes. not sure if water comes in both or if water comes in the higher and goes out the lower. we know it is illegal to put the ground water into the public sewer and we really dont want to. but is it possible to put it in 1 of the other pipes as a discharge or should we just make a new hole up and out of the basement to the yard.
Sludge pump/pipe for cottage toilet? Want to know how far I can pump sludge in a 1" pipe? (that is what a commercial toilet sludge tank and pump uses apparently, but no one has info on specifics) Holding tank is 120 feet away and too far for a normal gravity sewer as toilet will be low flush.. Any ideas or alternatives welcomed. No it isn't possible to move the cottage or tank.
Sewer question...help needed....? I have roto rooter coming tonight to unplug my main sewer line, because when I use any water in the house it backs up into the utility sink in the basement. The washing machine drains into this utility sink. We noticed after doing wash that the sump pump was going back on every 30 seconds and there was soapy water in the sump pump basin, but the basement floor was completely dry. The sump pump empties out in the backyard about 20 feet from the house. How would water get from the sewer into the sump pump basin? Could there be an overflow from the sewer that empties into the basin? Or is this a sign that there could be some sort of break in the sewer main near the house? Thanks in advance for the help. I am connected to the sewer, not a septic tank. I've read in a few postings on here that the sump pump line should be connected up to the sewer. Why is that? It seems that most homes in my area have their sump pumps draining into the backyard or street.
Do you think all cities should be charged for not fixing leaks their sewer systems? The sewage system that has leaking pipes reduces the cost of having to treate the sewage. The undergound water flows back into rivers and lakes. The underground water table can sometimes is a higher presure than a broken pipe that has the drinking water. Few people drink water straight from the water system. Over a period of time untreated and treated body secretions can damage a person body and brain. Body secretions should be pumped like cement or crude oil to a hazardous waste incinerator and burned to produce electricity. Improving the economic system so their is more money to create jobs and increase the wealth of people in poverty
basement waterproofing question? I live in a house in a flood zone. On heavy rains my basement use to flood. I had an indoor french drain waterproofing system installed. For 11 years water has been constantly coming into the pit for the sump pump. I burned out 9 pumps. The pump shoots out water every 5 minutes. There is a heavy sewer smell coming from the area of the pump. The sewer line is not broke. How do i get rid of the smell and also how do i stop the water from coming in?
Should an AC condensation line run directly into a sewer line? My wife and I are under contract to buy a house. We just had the house inspected, and there is a smell of sewage in the basement. The condensate line is running directly into the sewer pipe, with no trap or pump system. The connection between the condesate line and the sewer line is leaking, and there is some sewage on the basement floor. The inspector mentioned a lot of things but I forgot to take notes on that. What is a proper system for discharging the condesate line? With a trap to the sewer line, or a pump system that discharges outside the house? We're drafting an addendum to the contract, inspection contingency and I want to get the wording right. A description of the current set-up is written up in the inspection report as a Major Defect, but recommendations for remediation methods are not specified.
What is average litreage of sewage/waste water produced per peson per day? I am trying to work out what the average litreage of waste water (inc. sewage) produced per person per day in a typical domestic home. The reason is that I have to select an appropriately sized sewage/waste water pump tank to pump waste water from new house being built up by 3 metres to connect to main sewer. On the assumption that the pumps were to fail (eg electricity failure) I would like to be able to build in a over-specification to account for this hence desire to know average waste water produced. Could anyone explain how to calculate this? It would really help if I could justify on paper my size choice rather than simply say this is the size I have selected!!!??? Thanks for any input.
Sewer Line Clogged? My sewer line is clogged... I think. Attached to the sewer line are three things. 1. Upstairs. A toilet, shower, sink 2. Downstairs. A sump pump 3. Also downstairs. A washer machine. 2 and 3 are hooked to same pipe The washer machine was draining into the pipe when...holy crap... water shoots to the ceiling from the washer machine drain.. To diagnose the problem I: a)put water in the sump pump to kick it on....more water on the ceiling.... b)flushed toilet...water half way to ceiling c)used sink and shower...water raised a little over the washer drain.. To fix it i snaked from the toilet..my nearest guess is i got ten feet down...couldnt find a clog but the snake would go no further. I imagine it is a bend in the pipe the snake is unwilling to make it past. i tried snaking through. the washer drain... too many bends.. ok...i imagine the problem is below where upstairs and downstairs connect since toilet water made it downstairs...then the ceiling.... anyone have a solution...? Yes... I thought of calling a plumber..but would like to save the cash.. i'm cheap...i;ve heard flushing a cup of rock solt gets rid of roots....i am terrified at roots ruining my pipes... in response to the rude comment (#2) as far as the use of TP.. I use bunnies..not TP..contribute or move on..smart comments are not appreciated. the cleanout plug is inaccessible. The genious who designed this house decided the best place for a lowboy water heater would be almost directly in front of the clean out plug........the water heater piping is welded in place..
Sewer smell? We have a horrible sewer smell coming from our basement. I have read to pour water down the drains. We don't have drains. We have a sump pump in a hole in the floor. How can we get rid of this horrible smell, and can it cause any health concerns for our 4 month old twins? Our washing machine is upstairs...not where the smell is coming from, thanks for the suggestion though.
WE NEED YO FIND A WAY,to stop the sewer authority from selling our cars, because we cant pay the sewer bills? mind you we have paid a ton of money to pump our basement out continuously ,since they cracked a pipe in our yard! an engineers report says if we tap in to the sewer our house will wash away.Because of the damages they caused. But because they are the "AUTHURITY"they legally can sell our cars for the money ,if we cant pay! We cant pay,and we should not have to pay for a service we cant use!!any ideas ? GOD WE NEED YOU! why wont you help us?we are not asking for millions, although, I could find a million in justices to fix!
Are embalming and bodily drained to the sewer or tanked and buried.? During the embalming process as the embalming fluid is be pumped into the body, and cavity filling embalming is being done. As the blood and other bodily fluids drain out running down the preparation table and discharged into a large sink, or something similar to a large toilet with no seat, where is the 'excess' embalming fluid, bodily fluids that drain off into during the embalming process, city sewer system, or into containers and buried in a safe place from the public. I would think this would a eco-system problem, and dangerous for the soil. Already embalmed, casket, vaulted, in ground burials of cadavers burials notwithstanding.
Remedy for basement that floods? Sump pump? Back flow valve? My basement floods every time it rains heavily, like when the rain comes down too fast for the street sewers to keep up with it. The water comes up through the floor drain in the middle of the basement, then recedes again once the rain slows. Am I better off looking into getting a sump pump? Or having a back flow valve installed? (Has anyone had a back flow valve installed?) And should I be calling a basement water proofing company first or a plumbing company? I have called the city. They say it isn't their problem, and their suggestion was to raise my sewer line between the main street sewer and my house, which would be a LOT of work and money. (The town I live in is 100+ years old)
vacuum break valve & well service valve? Hi, There is a sewer pump station with 2 pumps running on one duty only (so, dont run simultanously!) is there a need for a vacuum break valve & a well service valve to be inserted inside the valve pit (which is about 1 meter away from the station)? Thanks
Could you survive if the infrastructure of the USA collapsed? If the power went off, and the water and sewer pumps shut down, along with gasoline becoming unaffordable for minimum wage families, could you survive? Do you have the basic knowledge it would take? Do you know how to collect water from dew? How to start a fire without matches? Would you eat a roach, or rats? I know that is more than one question...but they all tie in together. Seriously...put yourself in the shoes of the Katrina victums except imagine it being nationwide where no support from charities or government is available. I hear people say "live for today, don`t worry about tomorrow", but I say "live for today and you die before tomorrow arrives.
Septic Tank question? We just bought our first home that runs on a septic tank instead of city sewer. It was pumped about 6 months ago. Anything I need to know? Preventative advice?
