sump pump?? Built a new home. Sump pump use to go off all the time. A few years have past. We built a deck, and installed gutter guards. Now our sump pump does not go off. My question is, does the gutter guards, building of the deck have anything to do with the pump not going off as frequently? Or is the home has settled, therefore, the ground is harder and not as moist?
How often should my sump pump come on? I just bought a house and I've noticed that my sump pump comes on about every 30-45 minutes. Thats seems a bit excessive so I'm wondering if it needs to be replaced. The house is about 4 years old and it sits at the bottom of a hill so I'm told the sump pump comes on because I get the water from the homes that sit above me. I would appreciate any advise or ideas as I am a first time home owner. Thanks. i also forgot to mention. The house was not winterized before we bought it so the sprinkler system busted. But we turned off the water to the sprinkler...so that should stop water from flowing to the sprinklers, right? Besides, its winter and we wont be using the sprinklers until Spring so we werent concerned about fixing it right away...unless it is what's causing the sump pump to kick on..hmmmm :)
What is the process for using a sump pump to drain my pool? Can anyone provide me with an overview of the process that I need to use to drain my pool using a sump pump? Is the sump pump actually placed into the pool (i.e., it is waterproof), or does it have connected hoses that feed into the pool? I have no doubt that I will receive instructions on how to use the sump pump to drain my pool when I either rent or purchase one, but I thought backup from people with experience would be helpful. With regard to why I do not just drain using my standard equipment, my DE Filter unfortunately has only backwash and filter as an option. I cannot simply rinse or bypass the filter and drain the pool. Also, I have purchased a Wayne 1/2 HP 2,400 GPH Submersible Utility Water Pump #VIP50. The cost of the pump equalled two days of rental.
What kind of sump pump has 2 pits,2 plugs and one set of upper pipes going out? Hello! does anyone know what kind of sump pump has 2 pits(holes with covers) 2 cords to plug in,yet only one has upper pipes that pump outside? the other hole has some black tubing in it and it does make a noise so it must have a function?
Should a sump pump automatically start working once the electricity is turned back on, or what should I do? The electricity in my vacant house was temporarily turned off and my basement flooded, but it drained out. Is there something I need to check on the sump pump to make sure it will continue to work properly, or will it continue to work automatically now that the power is back on?? Please help, I don't need my basement to flood again, I'm trying to sale it.
How much does the TripleSafe Sump Pump System cost to have installed in a home? Basement Systems provides a patented sump pump system called the TripleSafe Sump Pump System. We have severe water flooding issues in our home. But, they do not say what the cost of installing this system would be. Does anyone have this system? If so, how much did it cost, and how well does it work?
What happens when a sump pump is shooting water out the top of the outside pipes? My yard has a very damp area that I believe is being caused by my neighbors malfunctioning sump pump. You can hear the pump run and then water shoots out of the outside pipes on to the ground. My understanding is the water should be sent out a pipe into the water sewer. I believe this excess water is affecting the concrete in my yard. Any ideas?
How can you tell if your sump pump system is installed properly? We live in an older house and have had some water issues in the area that the sump pump system is not installed, but the sump pump tank had never filled with water. Our neighbor can never remember it running. I don't think that it was installed properly because it gets musty smelling in the basement and why would they have installed it if it wasn't needed. Our sump pump well is bone dry and in two years has never had a drop of water. We live in Minnesota and sometimes get a lot of rain. We had a lot of water come in last September in the area with out the SP, but the tank was dry. If water was coming in why didn't it go into the tank? I think it is the type with a pipe in gravel running around the perimeter of the half of the basement. It is covered by cement. The well has a plastic liner and is covered. The water is just supposed to be piped out of the house about 2 feet off the ground. It would be pretty obvious to the neighbor if this occured because our houses are only about 20 feet a part and I assume it would spray. The system has been in for about 10-15 years. I had the compay who installed it come take a look because we were getting water in via the wall and floor during rains in the unfinished part of the basement. The piping is not in that area. I asked why we never get water in the well and I was told that sometimes water never goes into the well. I said then why would a SP be installed? There must have been an issue at some point.
How can I use my sump pump water to water my lawn? I have a sump pump that runs out into my back yard. It pumps out about 2-4 times a day about 5-10 gallons of water each time. I would really like to know how to hook it up to some kind of device to use it as a sprinkler system of some sort to water my lawn or veggie garden? Any suggestions?
Getting a new sump pump which ones are good? My old sump pump finally gave out. It's a Zoller cast iron pump made in like 73. Anyway I'm looking at home depot and others. I notice this pump is a cast iron epoxy coated pump. It's all rusted up and cruddy. I see flotech is pretty common at home depot. All I need is a 1/3 hp one since that's whats in my hole already. I was curious is a plastic pump better then a cast iron or vise versa.
What is the difference between a sewer pump and a sump pump? And how do you tell which one you've got? From what I have read, it seems like they are exactly the same thing. They both can pump clean water and waste water. My home warranty covers sump pumps, but not sewer pumps. I believe we have a grinder pump with blades, but it is pumped to the sewer system.
Hot water draining into sump pump well, where is it coming from? I have recently noticed that really hot water is draining into my sump pump well at a pretty steady rate. Anyone have any ideas where it is coming from? Is it possible my hot water tank is leaking into the sump well? What would be the best way to find out?
How much electricity does a sump pump use? We are installing a sump pump in our crawlspace and was just wondering how much extra electricity we should be expecting to use.
What should I do in a flood with a sump pump? My sister in law is getting flooded in out in that Nor'Easter..so some input is really appreciated...they have a sump pump and it's running all the time because their basement is flooded (up to her knees). Is there a technique that will ensure the sump pump doesn't burn out?
what type of Sump Pump Backup should I buy? What's the best sump pump backup that is availble and most reliable? I have heard negative reviews on battery backups and them failing. My partially finished basement recenly flooded due to a power outage which is why I am trying to pick one out. Thanks!
What kind of sump pump has 2 holes in the floor both plug in yet one has upper pipes? Hello!can anyone help me?I am looking to lease an old house that the owner has no idea nor do I what this sump pump system is?it has 2 sump pits on one lang wall(one in each corner) only One has a pump/piping going outside the other plugs in and I hear noise but there are no upper pipes coming out of it.Does anyone know what this is?I have serached the net to no avail. Thanks,Lisa The two pits are the same size with covers, the only difference is one has upper piping like you would see on a regular sump pump. What could the other one be doing?
What can I do to thaw the outdoor discharge to my sump pump? The discharge is not frozen where it exits the house, but it is connected to a hose which runs underground. The water is frozen at some point in the underground hose. When the sump pump goes on the water gets pumped out and runs right back down to the sump because it can't get through the frozen hose. This is causing the sump pump to run continuously but not remove any water. Any ideas?
Sump pump removing a lot of water from basement. Is this normal? I recently moved into a house and the sump pump in the basement turns on every 30 minutes or so and pumps out quite a bit of water. Is this frequency normal? Where or how can I find out how high the water table is in my area? Here are the things that I know for sure: 1. The water is very clean, basically crystal clear. 2. The property is not lower than any other on the block. I do not see signs of other houses pumping out a similar volume of water. 3. My water bill is normal, not unusally high. Thanks in advance! Thanks for all your answers so far. Couple things I should mention. 1. There is not a one way check valve on the drainage pipe right now. I am putting one in this weekend. 2. Yes, the water level in the pit does drop when the pump is on. Some water does drain back in from the pipe, but not a substantial amt. 3. The pipe drains the water far away from the house. I am certain that once it leaves the pipe, it is not coming back.
What size Sump Pump drain hose, should i use? I would like to run the sump pump hose to the ditch in front of our house, which is 125 feet away from the sump pump. What size drain hose, should i use, Three inch or Four inch?
Can someone explain why I have a horrible smell coming from the sump pump in the basement? We just built a new house, and have lived here less than 2 months. There is a HORRIBLE smell coming from the basement, in the area of the sump pump and grinder pump. The sump pump runs about every 15 minutes, which is somewhat normal since we are on a high water table. We have a well, and our water has a high sulphur content, but this is not a rotten egg smell, it smells more like sewage. It's infiltrating the entire house, and I have no idea what to do about it! Can someone please help me? Thank you!
Is there any way to install a sump pump in my backyard to pump the water to the street and out of my yard? The reason I want to install a sump pump in my backyard is to pump the water out to the street so that it doesn't pool up and flood my backyard. The distance to be pumped would be 60 feet. If I do use a sump pump is there any way to power it without having a post in the ground with a GFCI outlet attached to it?
What kind of plants can I plant near a sump pump runoff? I have a large area that is 'irrigated' by what my homes sump pump pumps out after it has rained, or Spring is thawing the Earth. The water runs through PVC on it's path to the ground. Ooops! I live in zone 5...would prefer perennials. Can be more than one plant. The area being flooded is 10' in diameter.
How does my interior waterproofing work? How does my sump pump fill? I have never had flooding in my basement (even in the heaviest of rains in Cleveland area last year) but I have interior waterproofing and a sump pump that works, but I am curious to know how the well fills when I rarely see the 2 pipes that lead into it draining water. On the side of my basement opposite the pump I can hear water dripping which is annoying and freaks me out a little. Why do I hear this dripping sound and what can I do about it?
Is it common for a sump pump crock to have drainage holes and is it neccesary? Sump pump runs alot and it was found that the water is not from the drain tiles but from the crock liner holes that are scattered in equal distances apart. I wonder if this is necessary or common to have all of those holes? crock itself has about 20 plus holes in it all around...
Does anyone know who makes a orange colored sump pump? I have an orange colored sump pump in my basement and I would love to buy a backup of the same brand for the future but I have no way of finding out what brand it is because it's currently in the sump. My builder installed it and I have no documentation on it. Thanks.
what is the difference between a sump pump and ejector pump? My crawlspace has flooded (probably due to heavy rain and/or leak in the foundation). I was asked if I had a sump pump. I know that I have an ejector pump but it does not appear that I have a sump pump. What is the difference between the two? What is each's purpose. Should homes have both?
Can I use my Sump Pump for a pond? Well, I have a sump pump because thier is an small underground river under my house. The pump pumps water outside through a tube and it iot just gets the lawn all wet. Could I dig a pond and lead the tube into the pond? I may want o put fish in it, the pumps goes off every 5 minutes.
How much does it cost to install a sump pump pit and pump on a house that does not and has never had one? Basically, the house has no pit or sump pump system, and i wanted to install one in the basement. Also, what companies do this type of work? i live in Chicago. Thanks
How important is a battery back up sump pump? One plumber says it is unnecessary, another says he can install one for $1,200. Is that fair? Are there any other options that I am unaware of? Our current sump pump in the basement does not have a battery backup.
My mom is having problems with her sump pump, how much will the plumber be and do you think they'd bill her? She has this problem all the time, I don't know what the problem is. I think it's the sump pump.. her bathroom has been over flooded w/crap and water. How much would a plumber be and do you think they'd bill her? Or is it due upon completion of the work? She doesn't get paid for another 2 weeks. *It seems like everyone is needing a plumber this time of year.
Can an overworked sump pump cause a fire? I have about 6 inches of water in my basement from Tropical Storm Ernesto. My sump pump kicks in about every 15 seconds and runs for a second or two, then stops. I think it's totally overwhelmed by all the water. Do you think the constant abrupt, repetetious draw on the outlet could cause a fire? I'm not to worried about the pump itself causing a fire, because it's covered wiht 6 inches of water ! Thanks for all the answers. Since the opinion was somewhat mixed, I decided to pull the plug for now just to be safe. The rain is pretty much over anyway, so the water shouldn't rise much higher than it is already.
How do you bury a sump pump pipe outside? We have a sump pump pipe that leads out to the backyard. Needless to say, it creates a little pond at times. What's the best way to handle this situation?
My sump pump drains into my sewer line. Why is this bad? Both my sump pump and my A/C condensate pump drain into my city sewer drain. I've been told this is bad & illegal but nobody knows why. Anyone?
what can I do for sump pump during power failure? recent power outages for hours-since I do not have an expensive battery back up sump-is there any other alternatives that I could use to ensure a working pump if no power?
Does anyone know what a sump pump is? We in the process of buying a home and they said the previous owners added a sump pump to the basement. Could someone explain this to me please?
How do I backup my existing sump pump? I have a new sump pump that did not come with a battery backup. What is the best way to backup this sump pump without replacing the ENTIRE unit? Can I just buy a battery backup attachment?
What is the best emergency power supply that can be connected to an existing sump pump? I have two sump pump pits each with their own pump, but no power supply other than AC. What's the best alternative power supply in the event of a power failure?
Why is there a constant flow of water into our sump pump? Could it be our new addition? The weather has been freezing or below most of the winter here in Chicago. I'm thinking maybe our builder didn't grade properly around our new addition. In any case, wouldn't it freeze? Is the water that's discharging getting frozen and causing a flowing back into the sump pump? Thank you for your ideas. Does heavy equipment often result in broken water lines? How common is that? Also, any ideas for quieting the constant running water sound from the water coming into the sump pump? My home office is quite near it.
How large of a sump pump do I need? I'm going to put a washing machine in the basement. It's the only place where it'll fit. Seriously. What should I look for in my sump pump? The basement's alright as far as water goes. This should be just for the washer 99% of the time. Thanks in advance.
Finishing a basement with floor drains and no sump pump? I have a 80 yr old home with a big and dry basement that I would like to convert into living space. Since it's older it only has floor drains and no sump pump. Does this present a problem when it comes to rehab time? Most of the homes in my area are exactly the same and many have very nice finshed basements.
The best location for a bathroom in a basement is it close to the sump pump? I'm finishing my basement, should I put the bathroom close t the plumbing wall or to the sump pump or it doesn't matter?
what is the difference between a sump pump and an ejector pit in a basement,? house is 9 years old, has full basement but no toilet or bathroom in basement. ejector pit (located in the center of basement near furnace and hot water tank) fills with water periodically but i do not know where this water comes from. sump pump operates individually in its own pit in the corner of the basement. pump in ejector pit runs constantly as the float is stuck and i suspect a faulty switch. how difficult to replace
Plumbing - How do I reduce the loud banging noise everytime my SUMP PUMP goes off? Whenever my sump pump stops discharging water it bangs with a loud noise heard throughout the house. I assume it is caused by the residual water hitting the check valve but how do I stop this?
how do I choose a sump pump to replace the existing one? How do I choose a sump pump what do I need to take into consideration? If possible I would like one with multiple speeds which matches the amount of water the one which is there is not emptying the water table it is quite highabout an inch below the bottom of hole, it is about 40 years old we think as it looks like the system was installed with the house it is either that or they put a whole new concrete floor in when they did it over.
Who should I contact to cover an open sump pump well in the basement - plumber, contractor..? The sump pump well is located in the basement of an investment property. the insurance company requires that the sump pump be covered. what profession is doing this type of work - plumber, general contractor, other..? Also, approximately how much should it cost just to cover it (just a rough estimate - $100? $500, $1000?) THANKS.
Can I, and then how do I fill in a sump pump hole? Has anyone ever come across this issue: I have a raised ranch where about 5 feet of the basement is underground on the sump side, and the ground slopes down to the other side of the house where there is a walk- & drive-out garage. There has never been a pump as far as I can tell, and in a couple of recent heavy rainfalls no water has infiltrated the basement. Can I fill in the hole where the pump goes, and what is a recommended way to do it?
Is there a way to empty a pool without the use of a sump pump? I don't want to install a sump pump pit and I don't really want to use the old fashioned bucket method. Is there a way to empty the pool of its icky water? Is there a pump of some sort that is stand-alone, with one end going into the pool, through a vacuum, and then spitting out that water somewhere else?
Has anybody heard of venting the sump pump pipe? I have my sump pump replaced one week back. Now it is raining heavily in my area. When I checked my sump pump there was water sprayed there. It looks like there is a hole in the pipe that takes water from pump to outside. When I talked to the guy who installed it he said it is the vent he put to prevent future clogging. Also the pipe jerks with loud noise at the end of the pumping cycle. Are these two things normal?
Can I use auto battery to power sump pump? How long would it last with DC sump pump? How do I recharge my battery? Anyone know any good DC sump pump? All battery backup sump pumps are 12V DC I think. My goal is to buy 1 DC sump pump, 1 12V auto battery and charger and use as backup.
Why does my sump pump pit smell? I have a sump pump pit in my basement. There is a large inlet into the pit that seems to be coming from the outside area, probably drain tile? Someone installed a car port and new concrete in back of the house and put in 2 drains that run into the pump. The pump pumps into a pipe upward that goes directly into the main drain sewer pipe. There is a trap in this pipe. There is allways a stinky smell coming from the pit. It appears the smell comes from the big inlet from the outside. When the pump evacuates the pit, the inlet whole is exposed above the water level. Is this a problem? Should that water be over the inlet hole? Any help please.
Is there a code on how far a sump pump crock has to be from a wall or sewer lift crock? I want to move my sump pump crock between my baesment wall and my lift crock for the basement bathroom. When they installed the sump pump crock they lut it 4 feet from the wall and 2-3 feet from the lift crock.
Is it ok for the sump pump to be stitting on the cement in the basement for a reconnection or keep in hole? Had to do an emergency reconnect for a few days. should sump pump remain in hole if the drains are reconnected or is it ok to sit it on the cement in basement?
Is a water powered sump pump any good? I want to have a back up to my electric sump pump but don't like the problems associated with battery back up pumps. Does anyone use a water powered sump pump?
I need information about a sump pump back up system? Hello, I need information about sump pump back ups in case this one were to fail. I know there are battery back up pumps but what about if I lose power in my house and raining very hard, what about using a generator to keep the sump pump running? Thanks
sump pump...? i've never set up a sump before and not exactly sure on what to get. anyways, what pump do you recommend fot the sump return?....can you get one under $30???...and additional info would be fine...thanks!!!
Sump pump..? This is my first spring in a new home. My previous home was high on a hill with slopes all around. When it rains my pump runs about every 20 minutes. My builder says this is normal but is it? I am about 75 feet from a two acre pond, all new construction and paranoid since my old house did not have a pump. Geat idea about a backup. I have only noticed the pump on when it has rained so I realize I am making nothing into something. Thanks for your help.
sump pump logic?? Sump pumps are used to expel water in dwelling basements where water can accumulate under several conditions. To date, there are two typical systems that sense the levels of water in the sump pump recess that operates the pump. The first is of a primitive nature (but the most reliable) that incorporates a "float" riding on top of the water surface. When the "float" achieves a pre-determined critical upper level height, a ball inside the float rolls into two contacts supplying power to the pump motor. As the water is discharged from the sump pump recess, the "float" descends with the level of the water, and when it reaches a critical lower level height, the ball rolls away from the electrical contacts and the pump ceases to operate. The second system involves a pressure switch mounted at the base of the sump pump assembly and serves the same purpose as our "floating" switch. Recently hired by the Sump Pump and Jump Company LLC, you have been assigned the task of designing the control logic for their flagship product - of course - a Sump Pump. Upon creating the design you find out some interesting facts: The "Jump" part of the company name was adopted to reflect the predictable electrical shock experienced by previous company service personnel while engaged in the installation process of the product. The Sump Pump as three inputs, one of which serves as an output as well. The Sump Pump is to operate as follows: The recess in which the sump pump is positioned has two water level sensors, one for the low level, the other for a high level. Water in the recess is expelled when the pump motor is "ON" caused by the opening of the "LOW" and "HIGH" sensors. The motor can only be switched "OFF" by the closure of the lower sensor. Testing the control circuit starts with both level sensors being closed, i.e. a logic zero or "LOW". While the water begins to rise in the of the sump pump recess, the lower sensor (S1) is covered with water which "OPENS" the sensor and the logic state transists from a "LOW" to a "HIGH". The LED which represents the pump motor remains OFF. After some time allowing for the buildup of water in the pump recess, the high level sensor (S2) is covered with water which "OPENS" the sensor and the logic state transists from a "LOW" to a "HIGH". This causes the pump motor to turn on. As the water level begins to fall, closing or opening the high level sensor has no effect on the motor and continues to pump water out until such time that the low level sensor closes again or goes "LOW" which then and only then turns off the motor. Inputs Output Action HIGH LOW MOTOR MOTOR 0 0 0 1 Motor is "ON", turn Motor "OFF" 0 0 1 1 Motor is "OFF", leave it "OFF" 0 1 0 0 Motor is "ON", leave it "ON" 0 1 1 1 Motor is "OFF", leave it "OFF" 1 0 0 0 Sensor error, turn Motor "OFF" 1 0 1 0 Sensor error, turn Motor "OFF" 1 1 0 0 Sensors are covered, Motor is "ON", leave it "ON" 1 1 1 0 Sensors covered, turn Motor is "OFF", turn it "ON" From the truth table on the previous page, we can construct the logic necessary for implementation using Boolean techniques. 1 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 C C A B A B = ( A * B) + (A * C) A B A = HIGH switch B = LOW switch C = Motor Output A B The following schematic demonstrates the logic and wiring required for the LOGICAL SUMP PUMP For your grade, you are to explain via text and attached to an e-mail in detail the COMPLETE OPERATIONS of the Logical Sump Pump To start, determine the output of the sump pump motor for its initial conditions i.e. The water level is below the LOW switch Both HIGH and LOW switches are LOW or "CLOSED"
Sump Pump: how deep should the water normally be? My 1966-built house is on a hill and I have some mild settling problems. I replaced a sump pump a few years ago and arbitrarily set it at the bottom of the sump. As in, it pumps out a lot of the water. The sump is only about 5" fill at any time. it seems I have some significant settling signs in that corner of the house and I'm wondering if the continual draw of the water in the sump is creating an underground stream of sorts (serving to pull more water toward my house). This theory is all cooked up in my head and I have no expertise that would suggest I'm at all right. but I still wonder if I'm pumping too much water out and would be better served by raising the level of the pump so that the sump hole is more full (by default). Are there any guidelines that relate to the water depth of a sump? Thanks, Mike
Sump Pump not pumping water? I moved into a new house with a sump pump in a sump pit. The pump is submersible. The problem is that when the pit fills up the float moves up and turns the pump on but it doesn't suck the water out. What I have to do to get it working is unhook the pipe going outside and pour water down in it. When I plug it back in it starts pumping the water out. Water eventually drains out of the pit when it hasn't rained for a while so the pit is dry. When it fills up again after a rain I have to prime it again. I am guessing it loses its prime when the pit dries up. Is water supposed to stay in the pit to keep the pump primed or do I need to get a new pump. I was thinking on sealing the pit so water will stay in it because that should keep it primed but I wasn't for sure if that was normal or if I need to get a new pump. Thanks for your help.
Sump Pump Pit bottom - what should the pump sit on? I working on 2 sump pump problems. 1) I believe my sump pump was installed too close to the top of the pit. 2) I strongly believe that the pump has been sucking pea gravel installed under the pump. My pit doesn't appear to have a hard bottom. The house is 50 yrs old. The pit was filled with pea gravel and the pump's base was sitting on a small piece of 2" thick cinder block, 23 inches below the top of the pit. I dug out the gravel and discovered what I think is the end of the pit's side, 32" below the pit's top. The bottom at this depth is mud. The vertical distance from the pit's bottom to the turn in the pipe is 57". (Pit is 14" across.) The manual for the pump says that the pump pit should be cleaned out of any rocks, gravel, etc. So... do I need to put pea gravel in the bottom for some drainage reason? If so, how deep, and do I cover this with a larger piece of block to keep the gravel down? Or can I drop a 12" piece of paver onto the mud?
Sump Pump Causing Headaches!!!? Just wanted to know if anyone has ever experienced a problem like I am having with my sump pump. My sump pump is going off every 20-30 seconds and the basin fills up quick. The actual pump works and is pumping out the water, the problem is coming from underneath the pump...the pump inside the pit sits on concrete and there seems to be two areas were water is coming up from the concrete as well as coming out of the black pipe (connected to outside). Should there be water coming up from the bottom of the pit/basin or should the only water be coming from the one black pipe? The problem with the water coming up is that there is so much pressure, it moves the pump and the water spits up and into the basement instead of being sucked up the tube and pushed out. If there is not suppose to be water coming up, does anyone have any idea how that water is getting in? Any help with this situation would be greatly appreciated :) Just to add more info...we are having a huge thaw and lots of rain as well....the valve is working properly the problem is the pump is being shifted around by the force of the water seeping in through cracks/holes in the concrete below where the pump rests. After a while the pipe loosens from the base of the pump and of course water spits into the air instead of going up the pipe and out into the backyard. Is it typical to have water coming up through cracks/holes? Its hard to see exactly whats going on as I can block the black pipe from allowing water into the basin, but there is no way for me to block the water coming in from the cracks and it fills up quick.
Sump Pump problem, now the Well? I live in North East, Maryland and it has been raining like crazy. Our sump pump has been broken for a year. Our basement flooded, but we cleaned it up. When I tried to plug the sump pump in....it blew a breaker. I flipped the braker back to on. Now for some reason, the well pressure is nothing. I know the well is okay, we just had a new one put in last year and we have had more than enough rain to soak into the ground. Is there usually somekind of reset button on a well pump? and what should the pressure be at normally on the well pump? p.s we put it in a new sump pump, but the water pressure started to decline before that. thanks Nancy
SUMP PUMP...need help!? our backup sump pump started a constant beeping. i don't know when but i found out this afternoon. it's happened before when it ran low on water or something. but this time when we looked at the panel of stuff and lights, theres a red light by "PUMP: This pump has been activated. Please check the main pump for failure." we know where the main pump is (i think) but we have no idea how to check for failure. i mean, all i see is two pipes coming out of the ground. what should we do?? it's just my mom and me right now so we have no idea. is there a way to fix it ourselves or should we call like some person...if so, who? a sump pump guy or something??? please help. beeping is very annoying. but whats more is that we don't want anything to go wrong and get our basement flooded or something....well, we don't know much so please help!
Sump pump kicks circuit breaker every 5 minutes? When it rains, the sump pump kicks on and the circuit breaker (actually one of those plug in test/reset circuits) trips every 5 minutes. I just paid $250 for a new switch because that was bad. Could there be a short in the pump or does the pump actually take up too much watts for the circuit? I tried plugging the pump into another outlet on a different circut (same type) but that resets every 5 minutes as well. Do you think buying a new sump pump will fix it or do I need an electrician to put in a larger circuit breaker? Maybe, is it possible those test/reset plugin things will not handle enough power? I dont want to throw good money after bad money unless I can figure out the problem.
Sump Pump Works - Flow Blocked - How? I heard something humming and found it was my sump pump. I loosened the clamps from the check valve and heard air pressure releasing. When I remove the check valve, about two gallons of water drained from the PVC pipe into the sump well. I have no idea what could be blocking it. The piping goes outside my house and directly underground. Not really sure where it goes from there. Anyway, I reconnected everything and now my pump is still humming but it also sounds like it's electrically arcing into the water. So strange. The pit is only about 1/3 of the way filled, and it looks like there is an overflow drain in the well, and the water is about one-inch from it, so I'm not really sure why I have a sump. One looks like an inlet, because it's angled down to the well, and the other is angled down from the well, like it would divert water away from the house. This is my first house with a sump and I don't know what I'm dealing with. I'm on city water so no well. The check valve is working fine and is in the correct direction for performing its duty. It is winter and had been in the teens. Could something have frozen in the pipe?
Sump Pump Thud? I purchased a house recently and one of the things that the seller had to fix was to replace the ejector/sump pump that pumps excess water into the sewage system. There is a separate pump that ejects rain water. After we moved in, we discovered that when the pump they replaced ran, we'd hear a hum (which is fine), but then a large THUD when the pump stopped. You can hear it through the entire house. The pump is located in a pit, and the check valve is installed about 3 or 4 feet above the pit cover the pipe continues up to a shutoff valve at the ceiling and then goes horizontal to what appears to be the sewage line. I noticed that I can hear a slight hissing sound from the valve after the pump runs. Does this sound like the thud sound is a result of the valve? The pump has been running more often recently, probably every 10-20 minutes. It was raining a few days ago, but has been dry since, so I would expect that the pump would run less often if everything was OK. Where the line meets the ceiling, the piping is secured by a small plastic bracket that is nailed into the ceiling studs.
sump pump is drawing too much amperage? I have a sump pump on the side of my house, and it is a recently new bought house, on the inspection it was noted that the outlet the sump pump is plugged into needed to be changed to a GFI circuit breaker type outlet, now everytime the pump tries to kick on it trips the GFI outlet, now myself being an auto technician thought i would go on out there with my amp clamp and see how much amperage this sucker is pushing on startup, and i got 31.14 amps on initial startup and a running amperage of around 8-10 amps, i cannot find any information on this pump on how much amperage it should be running but my question to the experts out there is what is a normal startup amperage, this is on a 20 amp GFI and it will trip immediately on startup. all i know is it is an older Zoeller Co. effulent pump. automatic float activated.
Sump Pump hookup in a leaking well...? I have a well in the country that occasionally fills with water (as much as a foot or so) when it rains a lot. I have no idea where the water is coming from since I have sealed the block walls with UGL DryLok and sealer. So, I thought about installing a sump pump. I'n not that good with electricity, so please excuse my dumbness. I have a 220 volt grey wire coming into the well which powers the pump. It's wired directly into a switch which can turn off the well pump if needed. Is there any way I can wire in an outlet for a sump pump into the existing wiring...especially since it's running at 220v? Or, do I need to run a new wire? Any thoughts on the wiring and/or where water could potentially be coming in would be most helpful. Thanks... sonofbrunhilde....apparently you are without a clue anyways...so don't bother answering people's questions. How many people have a water well in their basement? If I meant a pit, I would have said a pit.
Backup sump pump recommendations? I am looking for a battery powered backup sump pump. Due to the small sump pit in my house (I only have 5 to 6 inches of space for the backup), I am considering the the Hydropump RH1400 backup sump by Basepump. The pump itself is located outside the sump pit, requiring only the installation of a small float switch and suction pipe in the pit itself. Does anyone have any experience or feedback regarding this pump?
Sump Pump Question? Hopefully I can explain this right. Something in our basement ceiling kicks on, and then the sump pump starts filling with water. When this thing stops- it makes a really loud "boom" sound. After this, the sump pump continues to fill with water for awhile. We went down there & tried to figure out what it was to get rid of the nose, but we can't. It doesn't seem to be the pipes- nor can I imagine what in pipes would cause that noise. Is their something possibly in our basement ceiling (the pipes are over head), that would force water into the sump pump? If so, anything we can do about the noise? It's extremely loud in all the bedrooms & startles my newborn every night. The sound happens about every 5 minutes since it's so wet outside.
Sump pump wired with an extension cord? I live in S. Carolina (stated cuz I know codes vary from state to state) & have a sump pump under my house (crawl space). I bought the house almost a year ago & just checked the crawl space for the 1st time yesterday (should have checked sooner...but should, coulda, woulda...). Anyways, I discovered my sump pump is wired with one of those orange extension cords & plugged into the pull-chain light on the ceiling. It is one of those pull-chain lights that has an outlet on the side. The light is obviously hard wired since no wires are visible & there is an actual switch plate to turn it on & off (so you don't have to use the pull-chain). This is my question...can a sump pump in SC be wired with an extension cord? If yes, should it be plugged into the light? I tried Googling & haven't had much luck. I THINK code states an extension cord is OK as long as it is plugged into a GFCI. If this is correct, a pull-chain light isn't a GFCI, right? Shouldn't this been noted by inspection?
Sump pump kick in every 50 - 90 seconds? I live in Northern Virginia. My sump pump kick in every 50 - 90 seconds when it rain. After the rain, it still runs every 60 - 150 seconds. 1) I have underground Downspout Drainage Pipe directly away from my property line at my backyard 2) slopes graded away from the house all around I have walk up basement. So some of the water would go direct to my sump pump. What I do not understand is that why there are still water runs to the well when it already stopped raining. There are water sitting outside my property line, at least 40 feet away. I called the city to take a look at it. He said it's impossible for the water to get into my well with such distance. He won't do anything unless the water sits more than 24 hours. I called the home builder, and they said they do not deal with anything outside my property line. I have lived 4 yours in the house, and had replaced sump pump twice. Should I call the city to get permit to fill up some dirt to get rid of standing water. Any Suggestion? Granny... are you sure I could involve the mayor? have you done this Dude..... the water is sitting beyond my property line. I do not think I am allow to dig. Could you be more detail on how you solve the problem? Mike.... I replaced the sump pump before, I am very sure it's a sump pump, not sewage pump. The water is clear/clean, and it only comes from the back yard. Assuming the lay out of the drainage pipe is what I think of.
question about our sump pump running hard? We are new to sump pumps... this is our first house that we bought... yes, we had a home inspector and all was peachy but now, the sump pump that used to be so quiet... is now been running really really hard and quite noisy... it sounds as if a jackhammer is in the basement and it wakes up everyone in the house at night. We noticed water in the closet... and loked around and noticed water was shoting up from the sump pump afterwe removed the cover. The pump runs so hard it loosens the pipes and they come loose and water sprays everywhere.. we re tightened the clamps AGAIN and the pump still runs very very hard it jerks the pipes untill they come loose. the pump kicks on about once every morning a every now and then once during the day on a rainy day. Help! Why is the pump running hard it never used to do that. Is it because it needs to be replaced? Is there a certain maintenence to do with them? We know absolutely nothing about them.
A Sump Pump for a small Sump Pit? I have been living in my home for 19 months now. I have been having issues w/ my sump pump all along, but my basement has bee dry as can be. This is why I haven't done much about my problem. The house had a french drain installed at the perimeter of the basement & they lead to a smal sump pit that was created. The pit is roughly 12" x 12" x 18" deep. The pit is always dry when it's not raining. When it rains, the pit fills up, the pump turns on, then the basement stays dry. The problem: The pump switches on and off so frequently that after a while, i have to unplug it to get some sleep. When I look in the pit when this is happening, the water fills up & the disapears so quickly when the pump turns on that is has to keep doing this to do it's job. How many horsepower should I have in such a small pit? Could the pup be too big? Can I dig the pit deeper? The height of the horizontal discharge to the outside is approx. 8' from the bottom of the pit. The problem is not the sound exclusively. It is what I asked above. Is the pump too big for the pit?
My Sump Pump runs every 40-50 seconds. How can I fix this so it does not burn out? I have a submersible pump (1/2 hp) with out an external float (it appears that there is a switch on the side of the pump that triggers it to kick on). When I unplug the pump, the water stops flowing in at the level of the drain pipe and stops completely. When I look outside of the house, the pvc pipe runs underground for about 30 feet until it reaches a sizable puddle in the back yard that swells when the pump runs, then recedes when it shuts off. I have a partial unfinished basement with a small lake ~1/2 an acre away. The sump pump itself appears to be deep in the well as opposed to previous homes that I have owned (~7-10 inches below the water drain). I am worried that at a time of crisis (strong rain) that the sump will burn out because it runs too often when the weather is dry. I am new to the house as we moved in ~2 weeks ago. We live in northern Illinois. Any help would be appreciated!
Sump Pump Running every 8-10 minutes.? I have a sump pump in my basement.....it has NEVER ran before. It has never had any water in the well either. I have NEVER noticed anything in it until now. I have had the house for 3 years and this is the first time that the well has been filling up via the ceramic pipe on the side. The sump pump kicks on when it reaches the appropriate water height, drains the well until there is about 4" of water, then turns off. I look outside and I notice the water coming out which is good. This has been going on for about 24 hours now, every 8-10 minutes. I am in the northern Illinois area. We are currently in out "thaw" stage and we just got about 2" of rain 2 days ago. The rivers and creeks are really high. Any ideas as to why this may have all of a sudden started happening? We have had harder rains before and my sump has never done this before even when the creeks and rivers were higher than they are now. Is it a high water table? I am kind of concerned.
Sump Pump Blues - small stone base for stability? One of my sump pumps in the crawl space - the plastic sump pit shifted over time I guess and is crooked........ I'm digging out the sides and bottom to even up the hole for the sump pit now..... Once I get the hole dug out straight, what should I put underneath for support?......... small stone? ......... sand?......... plain ole dirt?.......... The crawl space is a nice place to escape wife, but I'd like to not have to go down there twice a week to hand start the pump...(float sticks against side of crooked plastic pit.)......
Emergency sump pump testing? My House is 14 yrs old with two sump pmps. Primary sump pump is working OK. I tried to test the float switch of my emergency sump pump. It is a black box with an alarm, attached to it is a hanger with a ball, similar to toilet ball. I tried to lift this ball by upward pressure but neither the emergency pump operated nor the alarm sounded. How do i make sure that in a real emergency this guy will do its job.
Sewage Ejection pump? Sump pump? What am I seeing? What's happening? Yesterday I was cleaning out someone's crawl space in their basement. The crawls space is located right next to the sump pump and upon cleaning it out I noticed two square holes on opposite sides. After I finished cleaning it suddenly the sump pump started running(or at least I think it was the sump pump) and the crawl space began filling up with water out of one of the holes in the wall. Is this normal? Now I have a lake in a crawl space? Is it a sewage ejection basin or something? What is it and why is it?
Sump Pump switches on but not pumping? My sump pump is not pumping right now. I hear a humming sound once the weight pushes it on but it's not pumping any water. I tried to unplug it and plug it back in. That didn't work. I do not see any reset switch on the pump itself. Any ideas? I'm thinking it might have to do with the motor...maybe it burned out. It's been running almost nonstop some days. It was running this morning when I went in the basement for who knows how long. It could have been all night.
why sump pump from kitchen aid for ice machine cost $400 and condensate removal pump cost $45? I will install beckett condensate removal pump rather than expensive Kitchen aid sump pump for my ice machine . This is what my appliance repairman and the salesman recomended. Am I making a mistake or should I go with expensive Kitchen aid sump pump ?
Sump Pump Choices? My Zoeller M72 (0.3 hp) sump pump is dying, sounds like bearings. We have a high water table in the winter/early spring, so it moves quite a bit of water at this time. The head is only a few feet, though, and we have the exit plumbed to drain far from the house so we don't have to pump the same water twice. When the house was new, the pipe that fed the pit brought in a lot of suspended clay, and some of that clay coats the pit and could have gotten into the bearings. During heavy rains or thaws, the water roars into the pit, and with the heaviest rates, the pump will not keep up and will time out. If the pump stays off, the level in the pit rises and then stops at the water table level, about 1 ft below the top. I sometimes have to coax it to restart when the discharge holds a column of water between the check valve and the pump discharge (starter issues?) I think 1/3 hp should do what it has to do. I just want my next one to live longer than 2-1/2 yrs Just read the installation manual, and I think the restart issue might be due to the absence of a vent hole. I'll try that to see if it helps. Upsizing makes sense. Are any brands superior?
Sump Pump turns on and off every 20 seconds... why? What can I do about it? I think it is my sump pump anyway... the noise is driving my crazy. It's just a little hum, like the vibration when something mechanical turns on, that starts and stops every 20 secords or so. Its not the furnance, and the plumbing checks out, so I am thinking it might be the sump pump. It has been raining quite a lot, too. Any suggestions or thoughts? If not - who do I call? A plumber, electrician, or what? Thanks in advance!
Sump pump question? I have a question regarding the back-up battery for the sump pump. This morning the power went out for about an hour. During the power out, the back-up battery for the sump pump kept beeping. I tried to reset the battery, but the beep continued. After the power came back on, the battery kept beeping. The back-up battery had a red light that stated to add more "distill water"...where do I put the distill water? The battery is in a small plastic container with a cover over it with some wires attached to it. Do I need a new battery?
Sump pump issues? My sump pump was running nonstop, so I unplugged it and made sure the float wasn't stuck or anything, and now instead of sucking water it seems to be shooting it out. My well pit is quickly getting flooded. Do I need a new sump pump now or is it an easy fix. It is shooting it out down where it is supposed to be sucking in.
Sump pump went out...consequences? I went downstairs to my unfinished slab basement and found just a little bit of water in various places where I have never seen water before. I kind of looked around, and could not find the source, but then my eyes happened to hit the circut breaker pannel and saw that the sump pump switch had thrown itself (it's on the same circut as the central vac...) Anyway, knowing nothing about building and such, do you think any damage was caused? There wasn't very much water, but I do notice that the water kind of congregates in the area of where hairline cracks in the concrete are on the floor. I am not sure if those cracks were there before, or if they were a result of the sump pump not working for an unspecified period of time. Can too much water building up cause the concrete to crack? Should I have it inspected by a professional foundation guy who will probably try to rip me off?
Sump pump in basement or French drains outside? Not sure whether to add a sump pump & French drain in the basement or to put a French drain outside the house. I have 2 steps down from the outside of the house to the basement floor. House belongs to my parents and is full of their belongings. It would be a big job to clean out the basement (they will not give away any of their treasures) so I would be able to bust up the concrete to add French drains that empty into a sump pump basin. Water is visible in the basement only during the heavy rain season (3 times/year). But rest of time, the basement smells moldy. Have a dehumidifier which runs - but everything in the house still smells moldy. If I did it on the outside, at the lowest point, I would only have to dig 14 inches plus an amount below the basement floor (another 12 inches?). If I put French drains around the house, how far away from the foundation can I go (flowers/shrubs next to house). 40 feet from house is drainage ditch for an un-used street. About a 3 feet drop from floor of basement to the ditch.
Sump pump smells like rotten eggs/sulfur? Help my sump pump smells like rotten eggs. I have an old house that has a sump pump and I'm assuming that the water gets stagnant. Every few days (2-3) I start smelling it again and it permeates my entire house. I've been flushing it with water every other day and pouring bleach in it every two weeks but it only gets rid of the smell for a day or two. I'm getting so frustrated. Please help!
Sump Pump failures and Personal Experiences? I put an offer on a house, only to find out during inspections that the sump pump failed or the exit line froze and the basement is now underwater! Luckily for me, I have no money invested in this. What experience have you had with flooded basements that will help me evaluate how expensive a cleanup is going to be? I am eager to move on this house if it is something attainable for me. Currently i'm already deducting the price of a new septic system, well, roof and some electrical wiring. Now, we have to replace the sump pump and its features, the furnace.. yada yada... what was your nightmare, did your insurance cover it, what else had to be fixed, and what do I need to take into account into the price of this basement cleanup if I go forth with the purchase of this property? What is the best home owners insurance agency to go with (i live in Michigan where water inconsistently will flood basements)
Sump Pump Problem? I live in a small basement apartment of a house, and have discovered that my sump pump, located in a small utility room within my unit, contains standing water, which is also causing quite an odor. In addition, my bathtub will not drain properly and I have a small leak from the base of my toilet whenever I flush it. Any ideas as to how I might go about addressing this problem, short of calling a plumber. (I am a better-than-average handyman, but don't deal with a lot of sump pump issues. Also, if I can fix this problem myself, I'll be able to deduct supplies and labor from my rent, which will help tremendously). Thanks in advance!
New Build, sump pump question.? We are in the process of building a new home and the builder has put in a natural drain and a sump pump in. We have a full basment with a walk out and the natural drain is tied in with the interior and exterior trenching/drain, but the sump pump is in the corner in the floor and the plumber ran pvc pipe up the basement wall 8' and out through the floor joist and back down 8' to the ground. I am unhappy with the look and wonder if this is the corret procedure. On the out side the pipe is out from the wall a good foot plus why run it up the wall 8' to have it come back down 8'on the out side. Should'nt it just go through the basement poured wall? We have this obnioxious pipe right beside our walk out door and everyone that see its wonders what it is and why it is done that way. I personally wonder if the sump pump will last/work having to shoot the water straight up 8'..... Any input, experience, advice is appreciated
Sometimes my sump pump will come on and sometimes not? I really have no idea how it works, but I have a submersible sump pump in my basement. I have lived in the house for 4 and a half years and the first 3 years it had no problems. The past year and a half I am constantly getting a flood in my basement. The sump pump sometimes pumps, but sometimes doesn't. I cannot figure out any correlation to when it pumps and when it doesn't. I have noticed that there is a float similar to what is in a toilet which does float around and come up to the top, but still water is not draining. I've looked on the internet but couldn't find any good pictures to show me what I'm looking at in there or tell me what my problem might be.
My sump pump runs every 90 seconds in rain or shine!? I bought a house in on a street that sloops in a ravine. I am the 6th house down. I demolished the house, dug 4 feet deeper to get the higher ceilings but hit ground water which seeped into the pit continously during construction. We had to keep pumping the water out. Now the house is built with extra weeping tiles under my extra thick foundation (for stability). My sump pump keeps firing every 2 minutes or so - my contactor says " don't worry, when we back fill, the water will disappear over time because it will find another path. The easiest path before was into the open pit but it won't be like that after the back filling"!! It is now 1 month since back fill and it is still firing as often! Is he right in what he says? If not, what are my options beside the standard back up generator and back up sump pump? I can't sleep with it firing every 2 minutes plus it will cost tons in electiricity and at some point all will fail and flood my basement??
sump pump recommendations please? we moved into an old house & in the garage is a pit in the floor full of water with a sump pump sitting in it. every now and then the pump comes on and gets rid of some of the water. this morning the whole garage was in 5 inches of water.... i need a new pump, but want to get an efficient, energy saving one. i'm not sure what size i should get either. any advice would be greatly appreciated ~ thank you
How do I test my sump pump if I have a sealed pit for radon mitigation? We have a sump pump in our basement that shares a sealed pit with our radon mitigation system. (The radon system was installed after the sump pump.) This is our first year in the house, and I've been reading that it's important to test the sump pump every now and then by pouring water into the pit. Any idea how I test the sump pump if the whole pit is sealed to provide the necessary suction for the radon mitigation system? Let me know if you need more info to answer the question.
Covering sump pump cover pvc pipe hole? Hello after installing our back up sump pump I found the hole where the PVC pipe comes out is too big. Is there something I can put around the hole? The pipe moves a little when the sump pump shoots out the water. I want to make sure it is stabilized.
How does a sump pump with in relation to a drainage system and sewer system? Does the stuff from the toilet & sink go in the sewer system and whatever water that seeps in from the ground go in the drainage system, or are they connected? If it all goes into the same system what is a sump pump for? Does it just deal with overflow (and the thought being no poop will rise that high)? What does it mean in one of the drains in the basement is flooding but the sump pump doesn't have a lot of water in it? Is there a clog between the drain and the sump pump or in the sewer? D'oh! I meant "How does a sump pump WORK in relation..."
Sump Pump replacement ? I need to replace my sump pump. are there any advantages to submersable vs pedistal sumps? besides price Keith
we trying to purchase home, with no sump pump connection, due to radon? how does flooding stop if no sumppump? Dear sir: We are trying to purchase this home, we had inspection done today and found out that sump pump connection has be cut off and when we checked the sump pump it was dry and rusted, looked like not been used at all, the house has radon installed as well, my concern is how does the water stay off the basement if no sump pump running? In Chicago, is mostly flood zone, i am assuming something is installed in order to prevent water from basement, the current owner of the house claims he lived for 9 yrs and never had any problem, but clueless as to how the water stays away from basement? not sure if this house will have any problems in future, how much does it cost to put new sump pump, just going crazy thinking about...please advice as to how does radon work with sump pump connection? thanks in advance!
Sump pump help....? We just bought our house and we noticed that there are two sump pump basins in the finished basement. One is in the laundry room, the other in a little cubby closet. I know absolutely nothing about these. We've had some pretty heavy rains but no flooding. How necessary are these? I noticed they are sitting in a basin full of water and the water does not move therefore it is stagnate and smells bad. There are some drains leading to the basins but I've not noticed any water coming from them. I'm stumped. Can I just drain the water out of the basins and just leave the pumps in there dry? Thanks! Just to make it clear, both pumps DO work. Its just that there's no water going into them and the water thats in the basin gets nasty quickly. I have put water in the basins but I have to do it about once a week because of the odor. I was just wondering if it was ok to leave the pumps in there without water being in the basins.
Sump pump overflowed into basement...getting the smell out?? Hello.... Our handy dandy sump pump recently died in the middle of a load of laundry and partially flooded our basement. Water damage is minimal....but the smell is awful. This event was very recent...about two nights ago. Pump has since been replaced but the smell remains. What is the best way to take care of the smell? It's a charming light sewage scent . Our basement is concrete and sealed with waterproof paint, and some water also made its way to our downstairs office. Any advice before I douse every last inch with baking soda and ammonia?
Tell if sump pump works? How do I tell if my sump pump is working or not when it is not raining? We had a lot of rain a couple of days ago and the carpet in our basement got we. We don't know if the sump pump is working or not. Is there a simple test we can use? We can't find a float ball anywhere ok, we found that the sump pump is malfunctioning. It doesn't. however, seem to be why the carpet got wet because the sump pump is surrounded (boxed in) by a drywall-type box. The drywall didn't get wet and there was a coke can near the "box" and it didn't have any water in it. If seems like if the sump pump overflowed the coke can would have been filled with water. we're still trying to figure out how the carpet got wet. The plumber said it was not the drain backing up either. He couldn't account for the carpet getting all wet.
under the sink sump pump for wet bar in a basement? I plan on putting a under the sink sump pump for a wet bar. How do I connect the discharge water from the pump to the above 3'' pipes. The pump will pump the discharge water to the ceiling in the basement. I have two options: 1) connect to a sewage line that is about 2 feet away from at the ceiling but the first fixture is a toilet. How do you connect the discharge water from the pump to the toilet sewage drain. Ist that a good idea? 2) I could run the discharge water to a sewage pipe that is about 15' away. That only has shower and sink water. If this is better, How should I connect to the waste pipe. Should I come from above and connect in somehow?
My neighbors sump pump drains down into my yard .? Last weekend and we did have rain lately I kept hearing their sump pump cutting on and it was flooding out of their house. I finally called fire dept. and they came out and turned off their water at the street and that stopped it. Does their sump pump require water and or electricity on? They moved out about 3 weeks ago and house is vacant. I don't want my basement or yard full of water?
Pedestal Sump Pump Tipped over? So I heard my sump pump start running today. It doesn't usually run but we had a bunch of snow and it is melting now. When it didn't stop, I checked it out. It had tipped over and the float was stuck on the side of the pit and couldn't drop down. I tried to set it back up but it kept tipping over. I pulled it out and poked the bottom of the plastic pit with a stick. There is a big bulge on the bottom. It sticks up a few inches, making it impossible for the pump to sit flat. Ever heard of this? Suggestions?
Is sump pump failure and related damage covered by most homeowner’s insurance? Is sump pump failure and related damage covered by most homeowner’s insurance and do I have to wait for the assessor or can I repair the pump and start getting the water and damage dried out...
my sump pump has now been running for the past 2 hours.? water is coming out of the other end so does it mean that water is still being pumped out. Also at what pressure does the water come out of the sump pump.
