What is the minimum distance between sewer line and water line? I live in Washington State, and I own a motel. I am currently remodeling a section of the building, where I am putting new motel rooms in. I am currently redoing the plumbing in that building, and I was wondering what the minimum distance is between the water line and the sewer line, according to State regulations for commercial buildings. Could anyone look this up for me? Please provide a link so that I may print it out. Thanks.
How do you connect a cast iron sewer line to a fallen PVC sewer line? We had the misfortune of our sewer line disconnecting and causing a back-up into our basement. The disconnect is less than 2 feet below the surface and all we need to do is connect the settled (fallen) PVC pipe back onto our Cast Iron Pipe. RotoRooter wants to charge us $1500, which I think is insane, I think we can do this ourselves. Any advice on what we need to buy for the connection?
How to prevent tree roots from growing into the sewer line? Cutting down trees is practically forbidden (municipal pro-tree movement). Is there such thing as a metal enclosure with small holes to fill with dirt and the sewer line? The holes would be to let any leaks from the sewer drain into the soil. Or maybe line a trench with lumber or plastic sheets so that the sewer is within this trench structure?
What is the average cost of hydro jetting a main sewer line? I bought a house 7 months ago that contains terracotta sewer pipes. Recently I have been experiencing some backup due to the main sewer line being clogged. I had some plumbers come out and they hydro jetted (power washed) my sewer line and it cost me $2100. If anyone else has had this procedure done, how much have you paid? $2100 seems awfully high.
Ant tips on running a new sewer line from my house? This weekend I have a backhoe guy coming and will run a a new sewer line from my house to the main sewer because the clay pipe has collapsed. iI only plan on doing about half of the line to cut down on expense. I plan on using the rubber "boots" on both ends to convert to 4" plastic. any tips from someone who has experience in this?
How to find the main sewer line? I have a house that was built in the '60s and would like to have a new sewer line tied into the main for my washing machine. There is a cap on the carport wall for access into the line but I can't find one in the yard. Will there be a map in the county records or something? As an aside, it took the water guy 3 hours to find the water main b/c it was around the corner and down the street (once the original property but not anymore). If it makes a difference, the house is on a slab. The plumbers have not been able to find it either.
How do I open a sewer line that is slow draining? My sewer line drains really slow but it does drain. The problem is when I do laundry and then have a huge influx of water when the washer drains. If I first drain the water into a laundry tub and then release it slowly it does go down. Is there anything that I can do to alleviate this problem?
Does a water softener help keeps roots out of sewer line? I have read information about rock salt helping to keep roots from growing in sewer sewer line, or copper sulfate which is also a salt. Would installing a water softener help to keep roots from growing in a sewer line? I would think it would work if you set the softener to discharge late a night so that the salty water had a chance to work on the roots.
Building a combined septic tank and sewer because sewer line is long? I bought a house that is 400 feet from the main sewer line. Now, I'm afraid that over time, it will clog up. It is beneficial to have a septic tank like system where waste pools in a tank and the overflow (hopefuly only water) spills over into the sewer. Then have the tank cleaned every year? The difference between this proposed system and a septic tank system is that there is a sewer line instead of a drain field.
Blocked sewer line from house to street. How do I get it unbloced? Now I hear from Roto Rooter that they have cleared the line right excatly to the main sewer and by law they cannot clean an inch further. Still my line from house is blocked. Where do I turn next as the city says the main line is open and its a "valve" at the exact connect point that is the culpret here and its not their responsibility. Its been two weeks and I need to use my toilets and showers.
Is there a way to get rid of roots in main sewer line? Once or twice a year my sinks/toilets slow down and I have to have a plumber clean out my main line. The last two times they have said that because of roots in my sewer line (big pipe from house to city sewer line) there isn't much they can do. One plumber said $3000 to replace the sewer line. So, is there anything I can do to get rid of the roots or at least abate the problem for a year or two? Thanks!
How do I clear a backup out of our sewer line? Our outgoing sewer line is backed up and were trying to clear it out. My dad just put some root killer cleaner-out-er crap in there.. "copper sulfate"' what does that do? What can we do without calling a plumber to clear stuff out of our pipe? What would sulfiric acid do? Thanks! were on a municiple sewer i guess? we dont have a septic tank i know that
What's the best way to get rid of roots in the sewer line other than snaking it? I have partial clog in my main sewer line from roots from an adjacent tree. I since removed the tree so essentially the remnant roots will eventually die and decompose. However, I want to get rid of the roots before the drain clogs up once more. I was advised not to use a drain root cleaner containing copper sulphate.
Should I dig up the sewer line? Last year, the house we live in was required to give up its septic tank and hook into the new city sewers (we already had city water). My hubby and I did not own the house yet, so the old owner had the sewer hooked up. I wanted one of those thingies put in the line that keeps the sewer from backing up into the house (prevents flooding). But the old owner didn't have it done. Now we own the house and are responsible for everything. I have been through a flood before (caused by backed up sewers) and I never want to go through that again. It would devastate our lives. We aren't in a flood-prone area, so my only worry is that sewer line. Should I pay to have the line dug up and one of those thingies installed? I know it costs about $75, but the labor would be a killer! Any thoughts on this?
How to prevent roots in main line sewer? We have had problems with roots getting into our sewer line and causing clogs. (2 times in the last 18 months). It happened recently, and I had to replace the carpet in my basement. Besides having a plumber snake the line every 12 months, is there anyway to prevent the roots from growing back? Is there a chemical I can pour down my drain once in a while to help keep it clean. I have some pure sulfuric acid, would that work, if I poured that down on occasion? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
What's a good price for snaking out a sewer line? Plumbing is probably more expensive than brain surgery, and I can't afford it. I need a line snaked out, but I don't want to get taken. How much should I be paying? I have a city sewer with a new back-up problem after a rainstorm. City guy came out and said the main line is fine, so it's a problem between my house and the main line. How much should I be paying? Thanks!
How long is too long for a sewer line? I'm looking at buying a house that will be connected to a new sewer district. But, the sewer line will be 350 feet long, with two sharp angles and several "cleanouts" along the way. How likely is it that a line of this length will need cleaning out on a regular basis? Are problems likely? Slow drains? Clogs?
Which trees or shrubs can I plant over a sewer line? I was thinking of planting a row of trees and plants along my back fence. The problem is there's a sewer line running parallel and about 50cm from the fence? I was thinking pencil pines interspersed with agapanthus. Should I plant directly on top, build up the soil height or plant into tubs instead? Any suggestions?
How can I get rid of tree roots in my sewer line? TRY REX-BAC-T or COPPER SULFATE? I have tree roots inside my clay sewer line, and Im tired of renting machines to unclog the drain twice a year. I found this product in the internet "REX-BAC-T", I wonder if anyone has used this product before and if so how well it worked or any other product that will solve my dilema. I need ideas, I read that cooper sulfate will keep the roots away, but Im not sure if it will work, there is a website with instructions on how to do this treatment..... Ideas please. (I dont want to kill the tree)
How do you cap/block an old (unused) sewer line? I just had my 100-year old sewer line replaced the other day. The last piece, the piece connecting to the city was pretty bad too so the plumber decided to use the new line directly to the city system. He tells me he "blocked" the old line - but I'm still nervous and they're about to cement the road. What is the best way to block it? What if the city backs up? I live in a residential area with an old system, untouched for the last 80 yrs. Thank you in advance for any help.
sewer line connect to the main? I have a septic tank and want to connect to the main sewer line far away from the house about 100 ft. Anyone know who the contractors I can call? I live in Lynnwood, washington. thank you.
Cost of rodding done on sewer line on both ways? How much would it cost to have rodding done on sewer line on both ways in single family home in Chicago? Does it need to be done every year and how does the tree roots get in to the sewer lines ?
Can I drain a bathroom to a sewer clean-out line? I want to add a 1/2 bath to my basement but I'm hesitant to break the concrete to access the sewer line. I noticed that I already have a sewer cleanout line that is about ground level near where the line exits the house. Can I drain a toilet/sink to this line? What's the best way to go about it? Its nearly ground level so I'm hoping I could raise the toilet and not need to break the concrete.
How do I unclog my main sewer line? Alright so, apparently the main sewer line to our house is clogged. We have tried everything, Drano and heaven only knows what else, including a pressure hose (not my idea). They all epic failed and right now we have no money to pay someone to come and fix it... I live in Puerto Rico and I only mention this because I suspect the pluming here is not standard like it would be in the continental US. At least usually. What can I do? :s
My sewer line have roots in it what should i do? the plumber said i need to get soemone to dig up our lawn to the sewer pipe then he could unclog it. but i read there are root killer chemical i could flush down the toilets to clear it. if i do kill the root won't that make a whole in the sewer line where the root broke though. and it will leak to the dirt...??? \\ what are my best option ?
Weeping Willow tree and cast iron sewer line? I would like to plant a weeping willow tree along the bank of the creek at the back of our property. Our new sewer line (pvc or abs) attaches to the cast iron main city line which is situated in the creek. (don't know why the city placed it there) Will it be safe to plant the tree since there will be a constant source of water from the creek or would the roots endanger the lines? If I can plant the tree there, how far should it be from the sewer lines? There are large trees along most of the creek but not where I want to plant this tree.
is water and sewer line insurance scam? i just recently bought a new house and a few months later the water company keep sending me notices and warnings that the sewer and water line outside my house connecting to the main line - aren't covered for any repairs or ruptures and that i am liable - so they are offering me insurance for that for $12 a month. my question is ..is that a scam or you guys think its worth it?
Do most standard home owners insurances cover sewer line breaks (not sewage backups)? I see a plethora of information out there, even in my own policy, that makes it clear that sewage backups are usually not covered. However, I do not have a backup. I have a sewer line under my basement slab that is broken - most likely due to age and shifting. The plumbers are still tearing up my house to fix it, so I am not ready to file the claim yet. My plumber told me that since it is not a sewage backup and the pipe is actually broken, they will cover the costs to dig down and get to it and to cover it back up, but not the parts for the pipe. He said this is usually the case in his experience and he's been in the business for 45 years. I want to believe him, but I'm afraid I could be stuck with a $8k bill.
What should I look for concerning a possible backed up water sewer line? I suspect the ejector pump has failed, or tree roots are blocking the line. Everytime someone takes a dump, it tends to smell near the ejector well, and the smell seems to seep up to the toilets. The smell passes after an hour or so, which leads me to think there is some flow, but it is backed up?
Slab home, replacing cast iron sewer line with PVC? We have a slab home and one of our sinks drain is completely stopped up. The plumber tried to snake it out and failed. He said he found mud when he pulled the snake back out, and thinks that the iron pipe probably rotted through. However none of the other drains in the house seem to have any problems. He will return with a camera to check it out for certain on Monday (no additional charge) *IF* the pipe is rotted out, he suggests tunneling under the slab to replace the damaged pipe - and considering the age of the house (1962), he suggests replacing all of the iron pipe with PVC all the way to the sewer main. Furthermore he suggests running the new line around the house rather than under it in order to minimize a chance of foundation problems due to excessive tunneling. What do you think of his proposed solution, and how much should such a repair cost?
What is the name of the cap that allows water to enter a sewer line? I have a French Drain that wraps around my house. It empties into my sewer pit. Is their such a thing as a sewer cap that opens to allow the water to drain and closes when no water is present? My builder told me I have one and it needs to be replace every three years. Thanks!!!
Sewer line pump a good idea? Our plumber suggested putting in a sewer line pump in the basement floor to force sewage through a low spot in our residential line to reach the main line. The cost is about $6000 less than digging up the yard & he assures us it will do the job. Does anyone have experience with this kind of pump...effective, reliable, etc.?
Odd plumbing? I have a sump pump that is connected to my sewer line! why would anyone do that? If you follow the pipes, they eventually hook into the main sewer pipe. It appears to be leaking. Can I just seal it off at the main pipe. Any logical reason this backup pipeline exists? This was set up to empty a washer into the municipal sanitary system. It leaks a little because it is not plugged in, and probably catches a little backup now and then. The other sump pump properly drains out to the local ditch. I rigged my washer to directly empty into the sump hole, and out to the ditch. Is that legal?
City wants to run a sewer line through my yard and me to sign an easement. Should I? We live in the county and my sewer currently empties into underground mines (gross I know!) The EPA will eventually close these. The company. doing this will pay to hook us up to the new city sewer, but we will now have to pay sewer bills. My concern is shouldn't they pay me for this use of my land? 27 feet of my yard! I cannot put anything permanent on it if I do this for them. Will this help or hurt if I want to sell?
Should we replace our sewer line with PVC or ABS? There is a crack in the existing cast iron sewer line and we need to replace 40 feet. My uncle said to get PVC because you can hear the water/sewage run through the ABS. The plumber said that is really only true for two+ story homes or if the pipe is underground. We have a one story ranch with a crawl space. The price is the same, but we'd have to specifically request PVC from the plumber.
