does sulfuric acid clog remover harm sewer pipes? I have purchased sulfuric acid clog remover. Before I use it i would like to know if it harms the drain pipes. Also if it works good on clogs.
Can a clog from other toilets or the vent cause a sewer ejector pump to not work? Basement toilet fills with water but doesn't flush. Last flush caused a foul sewer smell under the stairs where the pump is. The alarm didn't go off though.
tree roots clog main sewer line? What can i use to stop the tree roots from clogging the sewer line other than getting rid of the tree?
Who can make a city pay for a clogged sewer on city property? The sewer line is clogged on city (Pasadena, CA) property and is backing up into our house. We have all been getting sick the last couple of months! They want us to dig up the sidewalk and street and pay to fix it. It's their city tree that is clogging up the sewer on their city side walk. All our lines are clear. We pay property taxes and a sewer charge on our bill. Shouldn't they fix it?
How do I clean a clogged sewer? There's a cement square on my back patio that water was coming out of. I lifted it up and see that it's a big sewer pipe about as wide as a typical bucket. I see that the gunk and water is just sitting in it. I'm guessing it's clogged. Anyone know what I should do? Would this be the townships responsibility?
help with clogged sewer lines? My wife and i have had the issue a couple of times, our sewer lines are bad and about every 3 yrs they clog and back up into yard , we have clean outs that is where it backs up into. in the sewer lines is a belly of some sort that builds up and causes issue. my question is , is there a chemical i can put down the sewer or clean out that will eat or disolve the toilet paper and build up?
Our main sewer line is clogged we tried augers and enzymes and it still won't unclog, any suggestions? When we flush our toilets, the water comes back up through a shower. We have tried an Auger, a snake, and enzymes, but nothing has worked. We think the clog is definitely in the main line. Is there any product that would work better for cleaning Main Sewer lines?
Any opinions on sewer cleaning companies in City of Poughkeepsie, NY. I have a clogged main sewer line? I have a clogged main sewer line that is leaking in my basement. About 6 months ago, I had it snaked. Looks like it's repeating. The house is old. I have replaced the sewer line from cast iron to PVC inside my basement but the line going from the basement to the city line (underground) is still cast iron. Any opinion on a honest local maintenance company will be appreciated. Thanks
whats the best way to fix a clogged sewer pipe? ive tried chemicals. should i snake it? suggestions on products? or just call a professional?
sewer line clogging up with roots;does copper sulfate(Root Clear) help or do damage--older home? Don't want to auger out--too much danger of collapsing sewer lines. Does the chemical work? It claims not to damage trees/shrubs.
Can a drain auger clear a clog in a main sewer line? I have a pretty solid clog in my main sewer line. If I flush the toilet, it comes out of the drain in the garage floor. Likewise with every other drain in the house. I have dumped bleach and (later) enzymes down my drains, but don't hold much hope that they will work. A friend has a nifty drain auger called a Ridgid auto-spin that has a cable only 1/4" and is designed for drain pipes up to 1 1/2". If I stick this down my garage floor drain (the closest to the city sewer connection), will it help or will it just tie itself in knots in a 4" line? This is not a root problem. No trees anywhere near. I figure the clog is just buildup and paper. I would like to use this little machine because it has sleeves around the cable that keep it from splashing. I am fairly certain it is long enough (30') to get to the main sewer.
If my sewer is clogged up, Can I wash clothes, wash dishes, use the toliet and take a shower ? Just alittle of water come up..... I took a shower nothing happen yet....
Sewer cleaners in phila area besides rooter? My sewer keeps clogging every few years and I hate to call the rooter guys they charge too much.I need service but dont know who else to call.
What's the best way to get rid of roots in the sewer line other than snaking it? I have partial clog in my main sewer line from roots from an adjacent tree. I since removed the tree so essentially the remnant roots will eventually die and decompose. However, I want to get rid of the roots before the drain clogs up once more. I was advised not to use a drain root cleaner containing copper sulphate.
Our sewer line was clogged by fabric/dryer sheets. We never flush fabric, where could it have come from? Our rental house was experiencing a clog so our landlord called the plumbers. They snaked out to the main sewer line in the yard and found a fabricy/dryer sheet like substance. Problem is we never use dryer sheets or flush fabric (no kids either). Now the landlord is blaming us for the clog- is there any other way this could have gotten into our line besides from us? We recently had very heavy rains in the area (causing something on the order of 100-year flooding).
What is the average cost of hydro jetting a main sewer line? I bought a house 7 months ago that contains terracotta sewer pipes. Recently I have been experiencing some backup due to the main sewer line being clogged. I had some plumbers come out and they hydro jetted (power washed) my sewer line and it cost me $2100. If anyone else has had this procedure done, how much have you paid? $2100 seems awfully high.
How can I prevent sewer lines from clogging? Is there any product I can use to remove the scaling and buildup from my main line out to the tie-in out at the street?
What would cause a neighborhood sewer line to "clog"? Tonight I came home and the city maintenance crew was on the corner of our neighborhood doing something to the sewer. I went outside to ask the guys what they were doing cause my house was start to smell like poo (although luckily I didn't find a back up in my basement) and they that the sewer was full and would have backed up by tomorrow morning. What would have caused this? We have gotten a lot of rain and our area is completely saturated from that and from a lot of melting snow.
What could be clogging my main sewer line? I had Roto Rooter come out to clear my main drain. They said they went 80 ft out and could go any further. They are now wanting to put a camera in to investigate further. Am I looking at some major work to fix this problem? Could there be a simple solution to fix this? There are a few trees. The big ones have been pulled out. Our house is more than 50 years old.
New Sink and New Traps and Drum, but smells like sewer? Just added 2 new sinks to the bathroom, replaced the pipes and the traps and the drum is all new, there is a drum trap between the 2 sinks and the tub, the sink closest to the toilet has sewer smell comming from it, but the other sink does not, and none of the sewer vents are clogged. Any suggestions and what I could do to fix it. Thanks I have an S shaped Trap, whats the difference between S trap and a P trap?
Clog in the main sewer line? Difficult situation.? I've got a small retail building that is rented out. The renter is in the process of remodeling in order to open a store. When they run alot of water in the sink, water would flow back out under the commode. I put a drain cleaning machine in the 4" cleanout hole. The cable went in a few feet beyond the bend and then stopped. I spun it, and the cleaning head broke off. I called a plumber. He looked down the cleanout hole with a scope and saw a brick in the main sewer line, along with my broken cleaning head. He could not get them out, and said I was on my own. The sewer line is under a concrete pad. I broke up a 2' hole in the pad over the blockage and dug down to the cast iron sewer pipe. We've had 6" of rain this week, and the hole fills up with water. I can't dig out the mud that's at the bottom of the hole around the pipe, but I'm pretty sure that I can scoop it out after removing the 12" of standing water that is in the hole with a shop-vac. How can I open up the cast iron sewer pipe to get the brick out? About 2' under the concrete pad I found a Y shaped cleanout hole that had a metal plug. There is also the cleanout hole that I and the plumber used to get access to the blockage. The brick is between the 2 cleanout holes. I have an oxy/acet cutting torch, if that's what it would take to open up the pipe. There is also 220 volt service at the location, and I can stick weld the sewer line back together. I plan on filling the hole I dug with gravel. I filled up a 5-gallon bucket 7 times with the material that I'm digging out, that gives you an idea of the size of the hole. I still need to dig further, as only the top of the sewer is exposed.
How to prevent roots in main line sewer? We have had problems with roots getting into our sewer line and causing clogs. (2 times in the last 18 months). It happened recently, and I had to replace the carpet in my basement. Besides having a plumber snake the line every 12 months, is there anyway to prevent the roots from growing back? Is there a chemical I can pour down my drain once in a while to help keep it clean. I have some pure sulfuric acid, would that work, if I poured that down on occasion? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
Building a combined septic tank and sewer because sewer line is long? I bought a house that is 400 feet from the main sewer line. Now, I'm afraid that over time, it will clog up. It is beneficial to have a septic tank like system where waste pools in a tank and the overflow (hopefuly only water) spills over into the sewer. Then have the tank cleaned every year? The difference between this proposed system and a septic tank system is that there is a sewer line instead of a drain field.
There's a small tree growing directly on top of the sewer line, Should I dig it out? The sewer pipe runs about 2 feet underground. I heard the tree roots could eventually break the pipe and clog it. Is this true?
Sewer Line Clogged? My sewer line is clogged... I think. Attached to the sewer line are three things. 1. Upstairs. A toilet, shower, sink 2. Downstairs. A sump pump 3. Also downstairs. A washer machine. 2 and 3 are hooked to same pipe The washer machine was draining into the pipe when...holy crap... water shoots to the ceiling from the washer machine drain.. To diagnose the problem I: a)put water in the sump pump to kick it on....more water on the ceiling.... b)flushed toilet...water half way to ceiling c)used sink and shower...water raised a little over the washer drain.. To fix it i snaked from the toilet..my nearest guess is i got ten feet down...couldnt find a clog but the snake would go no further. I imagine it is a bend in the pipe the snake is unwilling to make it past. i tried snaking through. the washer drain... too many bends.. ok...i imagine the problem is below where upstairs and downstairs connect since toilet water made it downstairs...then the ceiling.... anyone have a solution...? Yes... I thought of calling a plumber..but would like to save the cash.. i'm cheap...i;ve heard flushing a cup of rock solt gets rid of roots....i am terrified at roots ruining my pipes... in response to the rude comment (#2) as far as the use of TP.. I use bunnies..not TP..contribute or move on..smart comments are not appreciated. the cleanout plug is inaccessible. The genious who designed this house decided the best place for a lowboy water heater would be almost directly in front of the clean out plug........the water heater piping is welded in place..
Where cat I throw my cat's waste without clogging the sewer line? or smelling up the house. I have a toilet in the basement and the dogs waste no problem but the cats is full of litter and clogs the line.
Sewer drain keeps clooging & needs replaced. Any ideas on preventing the clogging? My old clay sewer drain pipe needs replaced due to shifting in the soil that caused it to become "uneven". Does anyone have any ideas on how I can prevent the clogging as a temporary fix until I can get the money to afford to have the pipe replaced, as it will probably cost a couple thousand. I would rather not have to pay my plumber $150 a visit to unclog it either as I have done twice in 3 months!
My whole house smells like the sewer. I think it may be that the sewer pipe is clogged. What can I do??? It just smelled today. I woke up and the house smelled like the sewer. The basement's even worse. The sewer pipe water is coming out and there's water in some places in my basement. What can I do about this?? Is there anything i can do besides calling a plumber?? I don't have any pets at home, so can this still be toxic to humans??
how do you unclog the rear drain to a house that runs to the sewer drain inside the pluming not clogged? my back sewer drain on the out side in the rear to my house constantly gets clogged. pluming inside up stairs tub water drain out slow. I have snaked the back drain out side in the rear of my house many times and it just gets clogged again. mildew is beginning to set in my basement. i don't know what i can do to fix the problem for good. How can I fix a clogged vent pipe for my sewer system? The drains gurgle after flushing the toilet.
Why is the sewer backing up into my toilet? Ever since they replaced that floating black ball thing in the tank, it smells like sewer and the water is dirty looking. And it clogs a lot more often now.
How do I unclog my main sewer line? Alright so, apparently the main sewer line to our house is clogged. We have tried everything, Drano and heaven only knows what else, including a pressure hose (not my idea). They all epic failed and right now we have no money to pay someone to come and fix it... I live in Puerto Rico and I only mention this because I suspect the pluming here is not standard like it would be in the continental US. At least usually. What can I do? :s
how to fix clogged sewer line? all the bathroom is clogged or something. and Water is just keep on coming out (It's dirty & filthy) anybody know how to fix this problem and not have to call the plumber? I need help ASAP!
Is there a program that will put a screen on the sewer entrance to keep people from using it as a trash can? I live in a corner house and I have actually seen people throw all kinds of debris in the sewer so much so that when it rains it clogs.
Clogged Sewer? The main sewer pipe is clogged and runs very slow. Every time something comes down the drain, the water comes up out of the floor drain in my basement. I have tried a bottle of Liquid Plumbr Prof. strength and it didn't work. Today I put 3 bottles of that stuff down there and it still didn't work. Could it be a tree root blocking the pipe? There is a tree in front of the house but it isn't on top of where the sewer line runs. My house is the second lowest on the block (my street is on a hill) Could that be the cause of the problem?
Roots clogging sewer, what to do? Roots are clogging the sewer. Everything backed up. After snaking it, about 30% of the diameter is clear and roots the other 65-70%. They put a video camera there. That area is 12 feet away from the clean out. What should I do. Use root killer? Replace the section where roots are?
how much should I expect to pay to have my sewer line replaced? We've had trouble with our bathroom getting clogged and it would be great to have a bigger sewer out (we've an oldhouse).
How can I tell if my sewer is backing up my pipes? My sinks are always clogged and there is dirt-like ? substance that comes out of the sinks when I try and clean the sinks which makes me believe this isn't dirt.
what is the best way to clear a blocked sewer line? i have a bathroom in the basement and when ever i run the water in the house anywhere it comes up thru the toilet in the basement so there is a clog somewhere how do unblock the line
How can i make sure that my sewer or sewage pipes are not clogged? Such as with toilets, sinks, sump pumps, etc
The sewer grating is not a place to put garbage, especially plastic bottles and metal cans, right? In my neighborhood in NYC, it seems there is a consensus of opinion that when you are finished with your BOTTLED WATER or SODA etc, the best place to JUST DROP IT is in the curb or even better, stuff it in the sewer grating. We have had a lot of rainfall and if it clogs up, it backs up, and this can prove disastrous, no? Your opinions, please.
How long is too long for a sewer line? I'm looking at buying a house that will be connected to a new sewer district. But, the sewer line will be 350 feet long, with two sharp angles and several "cleanouts" along the way. How likely is it that a line of this length will need cleaning out on a regular basis? Are problems likely? Slow drains? Clogs?
are there any known posible ways to destroy roots, growing into the sewer pipes? i'm curious as to find whether there might be a way to get the roots that have clogged up our sewer lines. can't help but wonder whether or not there may be some old time remedy. or root killer.
I have a clogged sewer line and need to unclog it. HELP!? I tried a snake, a hose, liquid plumber and nothing has worked. Someone told me to use Root Destroyer since the main reason why it gets clogged it's because of the roots. What is your advice for me. This questions is for people who have experienced this problem or professional plumbers. I'll be checking all day to give those 10 points. Thanks a lot!!!!!
When I take a shower upstairs and toilet(sewer)water from the same bathroom comes up through the kitchen sink. Where should I snake the drain?Downstairs in the kitchen or upstairs in the bathroom under the toilet.I'm not sure were the clog is to make the upstairs toilet water come through the kitchen sink downstairs, but only when I take a shower upstairs.PLEASE HELP ME!!!
retriving a dropped drain snake in the sewer pipe? I was cleaning a clogged drain in my second floor toilet, when the snake came off the the auger and went inside the sewer line. How do I retrieve it?
Why does my main sewer line keep clogging? I have a 2 family rental property that has the main sewer line keep backing up. Near the water meter there is a main clean out. When I take the access cover off and shine a flashlight down the hole it's dry. So now I know the clog is further up pipe. About 10 feet up pipe there is another main clean out and when I take the cover off on this one it's filled with water. I now know the clog is in a 10 foot section of pipe between the 2 main clean outs. My question is why does it keep clogging up there? I can get the drain flowing by running a lot of water down it but with waste and toilet paper it just clogs up again. Why? Things I've tried. 1. Draino (Helps but drain clogs again). 2. Sewer auger with 4.5" grinder bit (worked great but drain keeps clogging). 3. Snake (gets clog out but clogs again a few days later). Help! I don't want to have to call a plumber so he can charge my $$$ just to do the same stuff I've been doing. The clog is underground inside the house. I don't think the main line has collapsed inside the house, seems sort of unlikely. Does a boar scope have a light on it? Can it see in a drain that's full of water? The clog is inside the house so I doubt roots are the problem. I ran the 4.5" sewer grinder 100ft down. I figure the auger made it about 20-30ft into the city's main line. I did pull out some tree roots but the clog now is inside the house so I don't think tree roots are to blame. The section of floor in between the 2 drain clean outs is a dirt floor so if I do have to dig up that section of pipe it's not the end of the world but will be a lot of backbreaking work.
Will a sewer snake harm my dryer vent? We live in a condo and the dryer vent is about 35 feet long with a couple of turns. It is clogged and must be cleaned out. My brother has a sewer snake and is willing to try it. Will the sewer snake chew up the vent?
Clogged sewer drain! Help.? A few days ago our two of our three toilets clogged up, one upstairs and one downstairs. I've been trying very hard to get the things unclogged but its been a no go and its starting to get VERY frustrating. Today I went down into the basement after hearing that it might be the sewer drain pipe. I took off the cover to the plug and lo and behold, there was blockage. A big mess of toilet paper and all the icky stuff that comes out at the end of supper...if you get what I mean. I was able to clean some of it out but the rest is to far back to reach with my trusty stick. It looks like it lays heavily at the bottom and builds up more down the pipe. I know about snakes and augers and what not, but I have never used one. The mess looks to heavy to be pushed around with just a piece of coil. I need recommendations on what to do. Is there anything heavier to use without calling a plumber? Perhaps anything to dump down the drain and break it down? (I.E. Chemicals?) I don't know when the septic tank was last pumped. Could that be the cause of the blockage as well? I don't understand why the other two toilets would be plugged up and not the other. One is plugged upstairs and when you flush it the one downstairs over floods and when you flush the one downstairs it doesn't let the water go down right away. It 'trickles' down after about fifteen minutes, leaving an almost empty bowl. I live in a house in the country and everything is hooked up to a septic tank.
i think my sewer line is clogged? when i flush the toilet it will back up into the tub . when i shower i can smell it sewer . the utility floor drain is clogged to the tub drains but real slow the toilet drains some times and other times i have to plunge it . stuff like drain o don't work may be a little but problem is still there . only options i have is to try some acid stuff or wait till i get money to have the pipes cleaned out by a pro . is there any other options i can choose from or just this too ?
How can I get a small plastic toy out of my sewer pipe? My 2-year-old flushed a small, 2-inch hard, round, plastic toy down our toilet. It is lodged 6 feet down. I rented a 5/8-inch snake from Home Depot, but the tip broke off. I called a plumber, but their snake broke too. Our house is completely clogged. Other than digging through the floor to find the toy, is there a way to dislodge the toy, break it up or push it through to the septic tank?
After cleaning the sewer line my toilet on my second floor still does not flush. What do I need to do? First I thought it was the sewerline that is clogged but after cleaning it and installing the toilet back in, it still flushes slowly or won't flush at all. I checked the water compartment and everything seems to be working fine. I wonder what else do I need to check or fix? This is one of the 3 toilets on my second floor and the other two are working fine.
My bathroom sink smells like sewer - what can I use to get rid of the smell? It was recently clogged for a long time. Then the plumber came and unblocked it and it was fine. It has been draining just fine, with no stench for the past month or so, but now suddenly we get a waft of what smells like raw sewage everytime we run water in the sink. I can't imagine what is causing it. It's not clogged. We pour bleach down the overflow hole and in the drain itself. Nothing will get rid of it. It's gross. I would appreciate any helpful tips! Thanks!
In a two story apartment building, are the sewer lines connected? I really don't know how to put this question. In a two story apartment building, if the apartment below has to get a plumber to use a snake, will it effect the person on top's apartment? If the top persons toilet is clogged, and the bottom runs a snake through the pipes will it help with the top's problem? If they are stacked, do the lines runs together?
What can I put down my drain to unclog tree roots growing in my main drain pipe that connects to the sewer? I have already had a plumber root out my drain and they're already clogging again in just a few weeks.
Below Grade Toilet Clog? Our home has a toilet in the basement that is below grade (i.e. below street/sewer level). Accordingly, there is an "injector" that pushes any waste water from the toilet, sink, etc. up so that it can go down to the sewer. The problem is that the toilet has very little "suction." In other words, it will sometimes clog on nothing more than a tissue. What would cause the toilet to clog like this and what can I do about it? The toilet was newly installed prior to our purchase of the house, which has been fully rehapped. Additionally, the other day, I flushed the toilet and it again clogged. However, water continued to flow into the bowl, eventually spilling out onto the floor. I've never seen a clogged toilet do that. What's up with that problem? Thanks.
What exactly are you suppossed to do with a condom after sex? In the condom wrapper instructions, it says "DISCARD" after sex but I don't know what to do. I heard you aren't suppossed to throw condoms into the toilet after you bust into them because they will clog the sewer system - or wrap around baby seals necks and suffocate them or something. I'm afraid to toss mine in the garbage can cause I don't want my X to get her hands on one and come after me for child support. I saw this movie with Alicia Silverstone called CRUSH where she takes a guy's condom, puts some manpudding inside her and lies to the police saying she was raped. I'M NOT GOING OUT LIKE THAT... YOU HEAR ME DIANE !!!!
What eats grease in sewer pipes? We have snaked it 3 times within hours and still clogged. Pieces of grease come out about 1 inch thick. We really need help. THIS IS RENTAL PROPERTY. THEY MOVED AND DID NOT LET US KNOW THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THEY HAD LIVED THERE ABOUT 7 MONTHS.
Preparing to redo the sewer service line? I found out there is roots in my service line and it is clogging. My Uncle is experienced with this and has offered to help me replace the line if I can find friends to help dig. This would save me a ton! What leg work do I need to be doing, i.e. how to locate, what pipe to buy, fittings I will need. Anything to make this as easy as possible on him. Thanks!
My house smells like dead animal at certain times. None found. Could it be sewer gas? Could a plumber help? I don't know who to call. Could it be a vent clogged? I didn't know sewer gas smelled like dead animal. Very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.
Cost to have main sewer line cleaned, like Roto Rooter? Having some plumbing problems. The shower and toilet will not drain at all, and when doing laundry the water backs up in to the shower. I've had this problem before, and it was due to clogged pipes - tree roots. Does anyone know how much it normally costs to have the main line cleaned (I do have a clean-out access outside). I've tried to look on Roto-rooter and similar websites, but nobody gives any kind of rough estimate.
How long does it take to clean a sewer main? I am currently having problems with a sewer line at a rent house, and was wondering about how long it would take to snake out a main sewer line. The sewer was backing up into the yard, and then it backed up into the bathtub, and out of the toilet into the floor. So, i only have a few hours over the next few days, and need to try to figure out how long i will be trying to unclog the sewer main. I know there may be worse problems that i may run into, but under best circumstances and its just a clogged sewer main, how long should it take with a snake, and would a power snake make it any quicker?? I am the one renting out the house. We can't get a plumber there for at least a week, so its up to me to do what i can before things get worse. The problem started with toilet hard to flush, and water backing up in yard, even though it was a small puddle. And then yesterday, it backed up in the house.
Who's Responsible? The grease trap at my work has been clogged for months- causing noxious sewer gas!? I realized that my headaches started about the same time the sewage smell started, as did my dizzy spells. Other coworkers had similar complaints, some even stranger problems. The problem was drastic enough to make ppl stop eating there for a while. It's fixed now and my headaches are clearing up. Too coincidental. Is there any way this can all be connected??? Apparently the owner has a contract with the city and the city is supposed to have the trap cleaned out regularly. It hasn't been done for a long time. It's been going on since last summer and getting far worse when we'd move air (a/c and heat). We had ppl in and out trying to figure out what was happening. We thought it was connected to the new town sewer project, or maybe a dry trap. The smell was so bad at times the restaurant cleared out. There were days I was physically ill. We all complained to the mayor, but all he ever did was point fingers. Needless to say, we were pretty mad when we found out it was the trap that the city was supposed to take care of.
Plumbing: Does a drain for a bathroom sink have to approach from the back of the sink? OR can I re-route the drain to enter from the side? My bathroom sink is located in a corner with the back to an outside wall. The builders installed the the drain pipe to come up through an interior wall to the right hand side and turn the corner 90 degrees to get into the outside wall so that the drain could approach the sink from the back. This sink clogs constantly due to all the angles - I have to remove the trap and clean the pipe in the wall every four months and the smell from the pipe clog is horrible, like straight sewer gas. I would like to know that if I tear off the drywall and route the drain to come from the interior wall straight to the drain, to remove the 90 degree turn in the outside wall, if it would still meet code? http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/464/sinkrf2.jpg In the picture the Pink represents the CURRENT drain and the white tape represents what I want to do. the house was built in 1979 and I don't know what they were thinking when they did this.
What would you install and where to prevent a sewage back up in your home? We've had problems where sewage has backed up through our basement toilet. The problem is caused by the city sewer system being clogged with debris and we are located at a low spot. What do you suggest we install (be specific please) to prevent this problem?
How do i replace the pipe that goes from my kitchen sink to the sewer? ? Its clogged and when i looked at the pipe, it was leaking because there were little holes in it. I want to replace the leaking pipe to a new pipe. I was just wondering how to change it. I tried to take it off but it was very difficult.
help!!! im having trouble with my sewer line.? it is thanksgiving eve and we rent a house. the toilets wont flush and ive had this problem before. when the cap is off the sewer vent outside the toilets flush fine but that's because all the stuff is coming up in our yard. if i put the cap back on, they don't flush. therefore i suspect there is a clog just past the sewer vent. I tried snaking it but i don't have a lot of experience with plumbing and cant be sure the snake went back toward the house or the way i want it to, or if it just coiled up at the bottom of the vent. could someone please give me some advise on how to just get through thanksgiving, have family here, and then friday i can call the landlord. thanks
Crack in sewer pipe allowing roots and dirt to fill the pipe...? I have a house (a brick tudor built back in the early 40's) in Flushing, Queens (NY) and started smelling a sewage odor so I called a sewer company to take a look. They said by viewing through a comera that I had a crack in the main sewer line some 28 feet out... which had lots of roots and vegetation. About 2 years ago, I had someone snake the sewer line because of a clog... and they had pulled out roots, so I know there must be a crack. The guy who looked at it said he could reline the pipes for $100 a foot... but when I contacted some other plumbers, I was told it was illegal to use the liners in NYC. Evidentally it's not against the law to "advertise" it in the yellow pages. I was also told that relining wouldn't work. A different plumber just quoted me between $14,000 ~ $18,000 to replace the cast iron pipe (which would require permits, digging up my garden, sidewalk, etc...). Has anyone else experienced something like this? What if I just snake it out every year and pay $150.00 . Would ignoring this costly repair eventually cause me to have to replace it? I'm planning on keeping the house for another 15 years. Any advice would be appreciate... especially if you do sewer lines in the Queens area.
Soooooo, why does my bathroom sink smell like a sewer? I replaced my bathroom sink about 4 months ago and over the last few weeks there is a very bad odor coming from the sink. The water runs off great so it's not clogged with gunk.
