  1. some put all automatic vents in attic ( no roof penetrations ) these go bad & suck the traps out of fixtures & then sewer gas enters house - you normally have roof vent to vent gas, sinks & tubs & showers have traps toilets do not
  2. you need traps at the connections not the main did you get a permit to do this addition if so call in the county if not you may be screwed
  3. No you cannot put a trap on the main 3-4" sewer line as this would be a prime spot for a blockage to form, plus this would block off much of the venting needed for incoming air behind the main sewer line. Each fixture should have its own trap installed. It can't be that hard to install traps on the sinks/vanities as the trap installs right under the sinks. I doubt if these fixtures are vented correctly either. You need to get a price for fixing this situation as the sewer gas can make you ill. You also need to do what you can to stop this so called plumber from working as a plumber in your city/county.
