How can I get rid of tree roots in my sewer line? TRY REX-BAC-T or COPPER SULFATE?
I have tree roots inside my clay sewer line, and Im tired of renting machines to unclog the drain twice a year. I found this product in the internet "REX-BAC-T", I wonder if anyone has used this product before and if so how well it worked or any other product that will solve my dilema. I need ideas, I read that cooper sulfate will keep the roots away, but Im not sure if it will work, there is a website with instructions on how to do this treatment..... Ideas please. (I dont want to kill the tree)

- Try digging down and pulling the roots away from the pipes then saw through the roots and that should give you some time to get to grips with the situation try using petrol with a small bore hole in the roots that should kill the end but not the tree.
- Those poisons don't do the trick. They may irritate the rood and may even kill it causing poison to go up into the tree. It is best to hire a plumber or drain cleaning person that has some expertise in the subject. It usually cost's very little. About $75 to $125 bucks. Some people guess that it is tree roots but actually it is a caved in pipe. This is also a common thing in older homes with ceramic pipes. Even cast iron can rust through and cave in too. This is kind of a shady business. Being hidden to the eyes and all. These people are going to try to talk u into excavating the front yard. This is very costly. there are 2 things you can do to protect yourself. Hire a guy with a camera. This costs a bit extra but may be worth it so you can be shown whats going on. Also consult the Better Business Bureau. They will tell you of someones reputation.
- Copper Sulfate twice a year really works. And will never kill a tree. It never appears to work immediately but months after snaking start with the product and you'll see you won't be snaking twice a year ever again.
- Sorry about that ! I would personally cut the tree down. You will always have that problem with the roots. Maybe you can plant another tree away from your pipelines............ Good -Luck to you !
- Call the city - I had ours dug out for free!
- Try ROOTX It Foams up the sewer line it is high in copper sulfate it will not effect the tree. what ever you use make sure it foams so it will fill the sewer roots usually get in from the top of the sewer.
