I have had a problem with roots breaking into my house sewer line and causing plumbing problems with back up?

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to put in the lines to keep these roots killed out?

  1. with any tree , the root size ,is as long as the ,the high of the tree, you can dig them up, cut down the tree, or move but you need to do it before its too late
  2. I have had this problem several times. Really the best thing you can do is to call out a plumber and have them cut those roots out. At some point you might want to replace that old drain with PVC Its not as expensive as you might think. good luck.
  3. There is stuff that you can buy that dissolves roots. You put it down your drains. Check with places like home depot.
  4. Everything already posted is right on the money...but there is a cheaper first step worth trying. There is a chemical (similar to Drain-O) called Roots and All. They sell it at Lowe's and Home Depot. I think it cost about $20.
  5. ew'sounds like a nasty bill their !! click on this link ...hope ithelps !http://www.ci.elko.nv.us/commdev/sewer_backup_prevention.htm
  6. get rid of tree and all roots.replace a section of sewer line and that should fix problem.not cheap though.
  7. Short term is do what most say and get roots removed. Long term is get the old clay drains that tree roots love and get it replaced with PVC pipe. Keep killing off the roots for the rest of your life. Or once and for all keep the roots out. Couple hundred bucks by the time you get done with any of the solutions given here.
  8. I have heard of a root killer that you can buy that will help, but I've never seen one. Call a plumber to get you going. But eventually you will have to replace the sewer line. Sorry.
