Whats the best way to get roots out of a main sewer line?

Public Comments

  1. Find the cap and get a snake and snake the drain. Take it from me. I've done everything else and then broke down and rented the snake.
  2. cut them out get a close hanger a wire one open it up stick it down the sewer and start cutting with the end of the hanger or drag the roots up and start snipping with some scissors.
  3. don't know where you live, in our area there is a product called Root Away and another called Root Gone check for these at your local homestore
  4. dig up ground change clay pipe work to plastic pipe work and sit back and chill
  5. get the snake run through with that then pour 10 litres of diluted round-up down the pipe and presto they won,t come back and every year do a follow up of round-up
  6. rowter rooter man......../
  7. Snaking it is only a short term fix, they will grow back. It should be dug up and replace the pipe.
  8. Do you know for sure there is roots in line?you say the main line,do you mean before the city meter? If it is after the meter then it on you, before the meter would be the city...I would say replace the line were the problem is..If you leave unfixed to long it will come up from the ground/clean-out ..hope this helps
  9. You need to contact 2 or 3 reliable contractors to replace the line..Depending on the length of the line..You get by as little as $3500. For a new 4' PVC line & sod repaired or replace..
