What can I put in my sewer line to get rid of tree roots?

- sewer lines have to be installed according to local building codes, you cant just lead them anywhere,if a tree is in the way,the tree goes.
- a backhoe
- Go to a Home Depot or another home store, I'm not sure of the product name , but there is something that claims to control roots in sewer lines.
- The only success I have ever seen with roots is to drill holes through the floor down to the root line and inject a soil sterilizer. Other wise they just keep coming back, however, a well sealed system should not afford the roots to get in to begin with. There must be an opening or crack that they are breaching. Perhaps they can be re-lined? Yoda out
- Tree root will penetrate any tiny little break in the sewer line. Best option is to hire a company to come out with an auger that they run through the line and cuts them out. Then use a chemical root destroyer on a regular basis to keep the line clear. Or replace the line completely. But that cost big $.
- Plumbers have a snake with blades on the end that will cut them out, but they will grow back. Yoda is right, your pipes are cracked. Replace the pipes, move the trees, or have them professionally roto-rooted as often as it takes.
- copper sulfate, or at a hardware ask for liquid fire drain cleaner, be careful with it, .
- house hold salt down your toilet about once a month. This helps get rig of roots. If the roots are already a big problem, you will have to contract a septic company to come dig and re-do lines, etc. If you have any experience, you can do it yourself.
- you may have to rod the line first then go to co-op and buy copper sulfate, its a lot cheaper than the stuff you get at a hardware store, and is the same stuff.
- someone told me to put fertilizer around roots so they grow upward? don't plant trees near pipes. imo
- You won't find this stuff in any hardware store: ROOT-X I bought it on line from a distributor of theirs. The stuff foams and clings to 100% of the waste line, i.e. top, bottom, and sides. I put this stuff into the clean out in the basement floor. Once a year does it. And it does kill the roots. A lot of plumbers carry this stuff in their service vehicles and apply it after rodding the waste line. It ain't cheap but it does work.
- Once their in there, they have to be cut out. (Roto Rooter). A Copper Sulfate treatment, or three might serve to kill the trees otherwise the roots will grow back.
