Kitchen disposer installation in Japan?
I live in Japan and I want to install a kitchen waste disposer. The builder wants me to build some kind of underground tank for purifying the scraps-I`m not sure what he means but he said that installing a disposer is kind of like adding another bathroom. The cost of the underground tank is about $5000. The sewer system here is different than in the US, but I was wondering if I could just install the disposer without the underground tank and do you think it would cause any problems?

- depending on the codes of the area it might be a problem you should check with the local building department to see what thier rules are on that point. physically though if you have a DWV pipe that is 1 1/2 inches or larger there is nothing that can stop you from doing it yourself. if you have any other questions let me know.
- try looking into an Insinkerator Brand garbage disposal. They make a model that adds enzymes that help break the waste down with each use. It is designed to be used on a septic system, but might work for your application. The only negative is that you need to change the enzyme chemical container every so often, so it is not 100% maintenance free.
