Sewers

I have part dirt and part wood basement. Recently I had a sewer back up and everything (poo) included backed u

up and mixed with the dirt. Any suggestions of how to get it out. It is plugging my sump pump. Help. It really smells bad too.

  1. Look on the bright side, now you have a indoor pool .......
  2. support the house and dig it out put block wall on cement floor to set it on. install pipe away from the house to a safe septic with leach field. dilute it with chlorine ?
  3. I concur with the second person. You'll have to dig it out. If you attempt to lay concrete over it, the concrete will take on the stench. Then you'll have an even bigger problem...
  4. I, as a contractor, wouldn't touch it but, there are things you should do first. If this is your house, there are people that handle these sort of things, call your insurance agent and see if this is covered first. Then ask if they have a name for these people, the also do fires etc. I would then, this summer, get a loan and finish the basement, it's not healthy anyway, the dirt is moisture, there are molds, etc.
  5. I agree with Cowboy on a couple of levels, and others state as well, though I wouldn't Jack the house. Certainly there are remediation companies, such as Serv Pro who could handle the job, and you probably should connect with the insurer. You don't state where the plumbing drains to, though it seems your sump pump may be connected to the sewage drain line? Not a good idea in any case. Those two or more issues being the case however, you'll need the basement remediated, the wood and some level;s of soil removed/discarded, and new/better flooring installed. You also don't state if the walls are block/concrete/or if the entire basement is hand dug, raw soil. I suspect you'll need multiple contractors. Remediation specialists Sewage/Plumbing contractors Construction/concrete contractors Etc. Steven Wolf Just my two "sense"
