My sewer line have roots in it what should i do?

the plumber said i need to get soemone to dig up our lawn to the sewer pipe then he could unclog it. but i read there are root killer chemical i could flush down the toilets to clear it. if i do kill the root won't that make a whole in the sewer line where the root broke though. and it will leak to the dirt...??? \\ what are my best option ?

  1. Your plumber is right. Root killer is not going to do the job.
  2. Why don't you just do what the plumber said?
  3. who is your plumber? mr.money maker, has he heard of using an auger with a cutting head on it,i don't know how its done where you live, but this how we handle it in the south,i know you have to do it about 2 times a year, but for what it cost to replace the sewer lines you can pay for having it augured a bunch of times
  4. Call a drain cleaning company . Chemicals take too long to work .
  5. Your best short term option is to keep paying somebody to send a drain cleaner snake through here equipped with a root cutter head. When that gets to be more expensive than you like, digging up this line and replacing it with new abs plastic line prevents roots from entering again and is the best solution. Some people have talked about companies that claim to re-line existing pipes; I don't know anything about that, that might be another option available locally.
  6. You do need to replace the line..the chemical root killer would be a short time Solution. and might work so you can flush till you get the line replaced. and yes it will leak into your yard
  7. The short term solution is have the drain snaked with a cutter blade by drain co. The roots will grow back in time. Chemicals do not work for this. The only long term solution is dig up and replace the broken sanitary section of pipe.
  8. I know it sounds rough, but if it were me I would want it done with, and the easy way is bring in a little track hoe and dig a new ditch and install new pipe.........it's really not that bad and then you have it done right for a long, long time. I wish I lived close by, it's very simple. And a great time of year to do it.........your plants are probably dormant and easy to move and replace when job is finished. One day and it should be all done, if well scheduled. Good luck and have a nice xmas.
