Sewer Gas coming from Vent Pipe?

New Septic & New Plumbing, Everything in the house works but the Vent Pipe at top of roof must be emitting odors as we smell it when outside. The pipe is up high, Everything is new including leech field and septic and all the pvc pipe, I never smelled it before when it came out of the old metal one on the roof. The ground is perfect yard - over septic for two years - the odor is up in the air from the vent - after we use water. Is isn't going away and we never notice it at anyone elses homes.

  1. That's what the vent pipe is for. Is the vent somewhere close to a social area or is the septic system ,tank, leech field the problem?
  2. being as you said "new septic and new plumbing " leads me to believe that when the old system was dug up it quite possibly spilled on the ground and wasnt washed away fully do you smell it the same no matter which way the breeze is blowing if so you may need to spread enzymes across the area of yard that smells so bad and in a couple weeks it will be much fresher for everyone concerned
  3. To troubleshoot I would start at the diverter box coming out of the septic. If system is split leach system change diverter to side not being used. Make sure diverter has a PVC cap screwed in it. Make sure the septic lid is on and you have flow to septic. Should have a clean out outside the house approximately 2 to 5 feet from side of house where sewer comes out. Make sure there is a cap on that. Think the problem is that outside air is getting in your septic tank and finding its way back to house. Or system needs to be diverted to unused leach field so that used side can drain. Check solids level of tank. Helpful hint. If you use bleach your killing your bacteria. Hope this helps. Good luck.
