  4. we had an office that one restroom was hardly used. The sewer gas would rise up threw the floor drain and was very unpleasant to say the least. Our office manager called a plumber and for $85.00 he told our maintenance man to pour a bucket of water down the floor drain every nite! Such an easy fix for only $85.00 - a $2.00 bucket fixed the problem!
  5. you should not have smells getting back from the sewers that are what traps filled with water are for, if you are the trap may have dry ed out if it has not been used for a while ,if that's the case tip some water down it, another reason is if you have an unvented soil system ,if you have no vent as you flush your toilet as the waste goes down it can syphon the water out of the traps in the sinks or basins, if this happens the smell can get back into the room until some one runs the taps to fill the traps there giving you the seal again. to remedy this check if you have a vent pipe if you live in a house as the soil pipe goes outside the pipe will go down and up the up pipe is the vent it may be blocked by a birds nest if it has no netting cowl in it ,if it is internal the vent should go through the roof again it should have a cowl on it if you have neither then the vent could be in the house near the toilet where the toilet is there may be a pipe with a valve on the end this is called a dergo witch lets air in when you flush but does not let the stink out if you have one of these it may be faulty you can change them easy yourself they only slide into the pipe hope this helps
