Any plumber types on this fine morning?
Slow draining toilet ( on a town sewer)- I've plunged it to no avail. I guess a snake is next, huh. Why can't I use liquid Plumber type stuff on toilets? It says" safe for all septic systems" and "cuts thru standing water". Why not? If it matters , I rent and my landlord is an absentee (slum) lord so if it wrecks something I can blame on his neglect, fine. If it makes something blow up spectacularly, sweet. If it levels the place, well , that's a bit much. The housewas built in 18-0- something- cloth wires, plaster lath, old plumbing obviously as well, but the line from the house to the sewer was replaced 2 yrs. ago. Whats the deal. Thanks ! Wow-you guys are great ("guys" being a bi-gender term)!OK- The waste line is probably OK as it was done the winter before last, right? The crapper has not actually backed up- just SOOO slow. Negative on feminine products going south either. I don't want to call the pros yet- I might actually learn something today! To the Depot for an Auger goeth I!!! (it's called a stool? Thats funny. If I take a piece of it to HD, is that a "stool sample"? ;)

- Remove the toilet, snake the waste line. There are probably roots catching the big stuff and blocking the line.
- You shouldnt have to remove the toilet, there should be a small enough snake to fit downin there. You could use fish tape also probably find it in the electrical but hubby and I have used his several times to unplug pipes. Is anything else slowing up or just toilet? They also make a device that you put on the end of a hose that builds up the water pressure and pushes clogs loose, these work really well, I dont know the name but am sure if you went to a home depot or lowes they know what you meant from my description. If the landlord will reemburse you, you could have a plumber come and do it for you. Also its a good idea not to flush products of a feminine nature down the toilet, they tend to stop things up. Good luck nothing worse than a backed up toilet. Hope this helps you in some way.
- There are snakes make for toilets. Do not use liquid as it is made for sink traps. You do not need to take off the toilet yet.
- No need to pull the stool unless you lost a beeperor cell phone in there or a toy of some sort. ( I have seen both ) If all the other drains work well, I would say the stool is clogged in the trapway. When debris packs into the trap of the stool, plunging will not work. Go the the local hardware store like home depot and buy a toilet auger. Buy the good one though, the smaller cheaper ones will not work well. I suggest home depot because they sell the same tools I use and at a reasoanable cost. Look for the one with the orange handle. Then simply retract the auger and insert the end into the stool and then push and crank the handle until it is inserted all the way. On ocaasion you will have to do this 2-3 times to remove all the waste. Liquid plumber will not work. It is a chemical that is corrosive but will not eat the organic material. I have never seen this type of product work. Enzymes work well, like bioclean but are expensive some times and do SOOO well, it will eat all the material built up on the pipes interior wall that it will create a biggger clog. Then you need to call a plumber out to clean all the pipes and then you are home free. Cheaper fix......buy an auger. Hope this helps
