sewer smell in basement. big pumps push out sewage but it sits in tank until it rises high enough to get pumpd?
the smell is in my basement apartment because of the sewage sitting there.what can i do to eliminate the odors.

- It should not smell in your apartment. Bathrooms are vented out the roof of the building. Septic tanks do not have vent( I guess that would be they are not supposed to have vents nowadays). If you smell the sewage in your apartment notify the landlord. If he will not correct notify the health department.
- what you have in your basement is called a grinder pump,which is a sump pump but grinds the waste.you need to make sure that there is a plastic cover over the pit opening,if you have one seal all the openings with caulking.
- seal the cover with silicon rubber
