Sewers

what kind of residential sewer system compressor pump do I need?

I recently bought a house with its own personal sewer system. My toilet started backing up and bubbling when I run water out of the tub. I now noticed that the compressor umb is not running. What is wrong. I think the pump not running is the problem, but I do not know where and what kindof pumb to buy. I took the serial number and part number off the not working pump? Where should I go from here. signed female cavewoman.

  1. I don't think you have a compressor pump, but a lift pump that lifts or pumps the waste to a septic field. I think you need to call a septic tank company, changing out one of these pumps isn't a job for anyone with a normal stomach, or nose Good Luck
  2. see zoeller pumps, myer pumps, I haven't heard the term personal sewer system before. Are you on a septic system? Has your tank ben pumped? Or are you on municipal sewer? I know of houses that are below sewer grade that have a pump to pump sewage uphill where it can drain by gravity into municipal sewer. The proper name is sewage ejector. The problem could be float switch went bad, tripped circuit breaker, or get your wallet out.You will need to know how high up the pump needs to pump, the discharge pipe size. It may be wise to get licensed plumber to help you.
  3. I never heard of a compressor pump, but you may have an over-head sewer with an ejection pump. Are you sure the pump is not working due to pump failure? Keep it simple.... check that it is getting power....plugged in? If so, check that the outlet is "hot" by plugging in a lamp in the same outlet, etc. If not, check the circuit breaker. Now, you know there is power to the pump. There could be a clogged pipe before the pump. Also, try running water from another location, perhaps a utility tub... Pumps dont run constantly...they start after a certain amount of water is in the pipe....so with added water, and electric to the pump, you can be a little more certain it is the pump. If it is the pump, a plumbing supply will have one. Take a picture, with the numbers you described and go to the supplier. It will help to know all the pipe sizes going into and out of the pump... If this is difficult for you, try a seamstress tape on the outside of the pipe, and when you go to the store explain how you measured the pipe. They will be able to determine the pipe size from your information. Changing the pump:It is not a clean job, and requires some experience. good luck
  4. Yes, there is a Zoeller model 810 and an 815 Grinder Pump for pumping sewage. Those are drop in pumps into a sump hole Both deliver a maximum pressure since they are two stage. Look on the net and give them a call on their 800 number. Zoeller Grinder Pumps I just bought and installed an 815 last week, Cost is $1175. I replaced a troublesome Environmental One. Which i will never ever buy again.
