What is the useful life of a sewer pipe and wastewater system components?

I am trying to valuate sewer pipes for GASB 34 reporting and can't find enough sources to give a definite answer. I need the useful life for water systems and sewer systems (pipes) Please give me a source for this so I can report with it. Thanks

  1. Call a manufacturer and they can quote there stuff vs their competitors I bet. If you drop a line like that you are a govt contractor they will rub up to you fast!
  2. This all depends on the matterials used to make the system. If the components are plastic in nature, then it'll certainly outlast concrete. Concrete degrades when exposed to prolonged currents of water, unless you use higher grade concreate, such as that which contains a smaller around of lime, and higher amount of sand. Now the plastic can usually outlive a person, and many systems made this way often do. Also it's all subjective, considering that they flow can change, as people leave an area, or more people move into an area.
