what is a STEP sewer system?

- You mean septic system? I have one and it was installed because I needed to get to a higher elevation for a drain field. Its 3 separate holding tanks that pump to each other untill the waste reaches the drain field. And there is also a warning light in case a pump fails.
- The Septic Tank Elimination Program (STEP) allows the city to pay and bring sewer service to homes.
- STEP systems operate much like traditional septic systems, so it's important to keep drains free of any chemicals, fats, oils, hair, solvents and other materials not normally found in household domestic wastes. Here's how a STEP system works: Each home has a large )1000 - 1500 gallon) tank, a sewage effluent turbine pump, and a control panel. The wastewater you generate at home -- for example, by flushing toilets, cleaning laundry, showering and washing dishes -- flows into the tank. The pump then sends the water and other lighter materials to a treatment plant. The solid waste remains in each home owner's STEP tank where it naturally degrades.
- served by septic tank effluent pump (STEP) pressure sewer systems.
