Who can make a city pay for a clogged sewer on city property?
The sewer line is clogged on city (Pasadena, CA) property and is backing up into our house. We have all been getting sick the last couple of months! They want us to dig up the sidewalk and street and pay to fix it. It's their city tree that is clogging up the sewer on their city side walk. All our lines are clear. We pay property taxes and a sewer charge on our bill. Shouldn't they fix it?

- I would go to a town, city or council meeting. We just had that happen to a resident and he brought the bill to them, they voted on it and they wrote him a check that day. You must be able to prove it is not caused by you. I think his were tree roots. If you flushed something and it clogged on down the line then a certified plumber finds you at fault it could be more trouble than it's worth fighting for. So just make sure.
- I agree they should. You may need to hire a lawyer to fight them. Contact your city councilman and see if they can intervene on your behalf.
