Sewers

How do I clean a clogged sewer?

There's a cement square on my back patio that water was coming out of. I lifted it up and see that it's a big sewer pipe about as wide as a typical bucket. I see that the gunk and water is just sitting in it. I'm guessing it's clogged. Anyone know what I should do? Would this be the townships responsibility?

Public Comments

  1. I would call your township/boro and ask them. It does not hurt to ask and then if it is your responsibility, then call a plumber.
  2. I would imagine that if its outside then you should contact the Public Work for help, but if its in the house then I guess you need to contact someone professional to help you out!
  3. If it's on your property it's your problem, The only time that it isn't is if the municipality has an easement. But you can always ask, all they can do is say no. It sounds as if you have a septic field not city sewer. If its septic you hooped. There are products that eat the products inside your septic tank but they take time to work. you might have to have your tank cleaned out. It's a headache but not difficult.
  4. If it's in your back patio, then I wouldn't think it's the City's but from the size of it you described, it sounds like a 12" diameter pipe. Most home pipes are only 4 inches diameter so it could somehow be a public line. Go to the City and check
