Sewers

Does this law mean it's illegal to vomit in a toilet if it's part of a city sewer system? . ..?

http://www.alabamainteractive.org/alabamainteractive_shell/Welcome.do?url=http://www.legislature.state.al.us/CodeofAlabama/1975/coatoc.htm Section 22-20-8 Depositing dead animals or nauseous substances in water supplies. It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly deposit any dead animal or nauseous substance in any source, standpipe or reservoir from which water is supplied to any city or town of this state or in any private well, spring, reservoir, tank, vessel or receptacle. Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be punished by a fine not exceeding $500.00 and may be sentenced to hard labor for the county not exceeding one year. (Code 1896, §5331; Code 1907, §7875; Code 1923, §5610; Code 1940, T. 22, §133.) But it's the same water . ..? It isn't new water . .. The way this is worded it is illegal to put any nauseus substance in any tank

Public Comments

  1. Sewers are not part of water supply systems. they are waste disposal systems.
  2. it's talking about the public water supply... not the sewer system. but you knew that already.
  3. No, it says supplies the spring, well or reservoir.A toilet is already supplied with water and it is waste once it is in the toilet. You can put anything in it you want. So, it is saying fresh water, can't have any of the above deposited in it.
  4. that means the supply source. not the sewers....
  5. No it means don't puke in the drinking water source, a reservoir, well or spring, the sewer system is ok, puke is just a bodily waste and that's what the sewer/wastewater system is for.
  6. no.
  7. no i think it means that if you put something that will make someone puke, it is against the law. something chemical like probably.
  8. No, you have to read the whole statute. The following description "source, standpipe or reservoir from which water is supplied to any city or town of this state or in any private well, spring, reservoir, tank, vessel or receptacle" basically refers to drinking water. The water that you flush down the toilet isn't for drinking. (I hope)
  9. Hi Stargazer, You can vomit into the toilet, which leads to the sanitary sewer system. However, it's illegal to put anything in the sewer which would cause a strong odor (such as a dead animal). This does not include fecal matter, which is easily degraded by sewer bacteria.
  10. By that logic you'd be violating the law every time you took a dook. As long as the ACLU doesn't sue the state under the argument that toilets are a recognized water source for a small group of immigrant refugees, excretory rights will remain in full force for the good people of Alabama.
  11. Oops
