Install Utility Sink with Drainage to Elevated Sewer Line?

I want to install a utility sink in the basement and have a few questions before I begin. Here's where I am: There used to be a special photography sink that was already removed before I moved in, so the necessary pipes are all in place, albeit higher than normal. I have no problem tapping into the existing supply lines and have done this before. However, the drainage that was left behind, currently a capped PVC P-trap that runs into the main sewer line (a large black plastic pipe), is about 30" off of the ground; much too high to fit neatly under my utility sink. Also, the sewer line that I would drain into is high in this room as well, about 24". Shouldn't there be a downhill grade from my sink drain to the sewer line? Do I need to do something special for proper drainage? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

  1. The large black pipe is likely ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene). Water doesn't run uphill so you'll have to use a small pump to lift it to the sewer.
  2. Whatever you do, water dosnt flow uphill, so your sink has to be higher than the sewer line
  3. You'll have to install a fractional horse power sludge pump. Don't forget to install the check valve or you might not be able to make it work!!
