Sewers

how much can i expect to have a plumber come out on a sunday for a clogged main sewer line?

this morning around 5am my wife took a shower as usual before she went to work. we heard some gurgling sounds from the toilets as she showered. then all of a sudden the shower stopped draining and the toilet bowl emptied and now we have standing water in the other tub and in the shower she was in. and the water in the unused tub is filthy to say the least. but considering i've never had any problems with the plumbing before i'm not sure what the typical cost of a plumber on a early sunday morning would be. any ideas?

  1. Where do you live Russ?
  2. Expect probably $100 just for him to come out.
  3. I don't think you have much choice to be worrying about how much the plumber will cost - get on the phone - you need that plumber ASAP! Early Sunday, late Sunday - it'll cost the same. Check your yellow pages - many say there's no extra charge for after hours/weekend service. Good luck!
  4. A plumber will likely cost you at least $100. It may be worth it, however. I have had good luck clearing main lines using chemical drain cleaners. There are two main types: alkali and acid. I have found the acid-based solutions to work best. Look for products which say they are for main lines. You may have to pay $20-30 in chemicals. Follow all the directions on the label.
  5. 100 where do you guys live Im thinking 180 to step through the door maybe you get half an hour time with that then at least 180 an hour after the first half. Try to negotiate a flat price or unless hes a football fan he could drag out the time welll past 1 pm
