Sewers

Sewer drain keeps clooging & needs replaced. Any ideas on preventing the clogging?

My old clay sewer drain pipe needs replaced due to shifting in the soil that caused it to become "uneven". Does anyone have any ideas on how I can prevent the clogging as a temporary fix until I can get the money to afford to have the pipe replaced, as it will probably cost a couple thousand. I would rather not have to pay my plumber $150 a visit to unclog it either as I have done twice in 3 months!

  1. OK, first of all, What is your plumber pulling out when he "rods" the line? If it is roots a good root killer is available through Ace hardware. If it is Mud and particles of your Clay pipe you have really no choice but to replace it. You really could do a main sewer yourself. it is not hard. as for the digging find a high school kid in need of money or a "neighborhood handyman" who is in need of assisting a neighbor. The materials to do this on a standard 75' line is about $100-$200 dollars and a little sweat and hard work. Your local library should have books on Plumbing to help out.
