I have tree roots in my sewer line.. The tree is cut.. Should i dig out the stump?.?
Its a river birch tree. Will the roots grow back if i dig out the stump? Should I dig out the stump and find as many roots as possible and dig them out as well?

- Dont let the tree sprout and regrow. Dont dig anything out. You might want to consider a stup removal service that will grind up the entire unexposed stump which probably is quite large. Those cost about $450 a stump or even more. You actually dont need to do anything the stump will begin to rot this summer and take about 5 years to totally vanish. On the sewer line. Get RotoRooter out there and they have a special cutter blade to chew up the roots in the sewer.
- A RIVER BIRCH WILL GROW BACK FROM THE ROOT STOCK. They are a "clumping" type of tree. You could try to burn the stump if possible in your area or there are products available to help the stump deteriorate faster from some nursery or hardware stores.
- If you have a local farm supply store near, check with them for a chemical that you can put on the stump to kill the roots. I have used a product that I can't remember it's name. Then you can get the roots out of the line yourself or have someone do it for you. Good luck.
- They make a product you can flush down the toilet to kill all the roots. I paid 18.00 for it six years ago. I think I did it twice. I had two GIANT sycamore trees in my front yard and have not had a problem since.
- What do I look like, Glen Hagy?
- have a plumber come out and run a camera down your sewer line a find out were down the line the roots are in terra cotta pipe they like to grow into the test tee when they find the roots probaly at the test tee have them dig that out and replace it
- You should dig out stump or have stump ground out for appearances only. The root will probably grow for quite some time.I have seen roots growing in a line 15 years after tree and stump were removed. Also some trees will grow roots 100 feet or better to find a water source.Who's to say another tree won't grow in line. The only way to prevent tree root growth is to replace with PVC pipe.
