Can tree roots still grow without the tree or stump?
I recently cut the tree down and in the process of digging out the stump. The tree was clogging my sewer line.

- No,Because The Roots Bring Water To The Plant. If They Dont,They Die.
- yeah they can still grow cause as the tree grows up the roots grow down and if you didn't have the stump removed most likely a few months from now you would see a new tree trying to grow on top of the stump or next to it
- Yes, it can continue to grow. Since it is damaging your sewer line, which is very expensive, I would keep digging on down and try to remove the entire mess. The hard work is worth saving a buck, trust me I know. Good luck to you and kudos on being smarter than myself by taking care of the problem!!!
