How do I open a sewer line that is slow draining?

My sewer line drains really slow but it does drain. The problem is when I do laundry and then have a huge influx of water when the washer drains. If I first drain the water into a laundry tub and then release it slowly it does go down. Is there anything that I can do to alleviate this problem?

  1. buy a drain snake. it sounds like theres debris building up in the pipes.. could just be in a trap or within the walls of the drain pipe.. if that doesnt work then try opening up the cleanout pipe.. its a pipe thats sticking out from one of the outside walls seemingly for no reason... it should have a cap or plug on it.. remove this plug and run the snake through this clean out.. its to clean out...........
  2. There should also be a vent pipes on the roof for gas to escape. If that fills up with leaves and debris, (or a bird nest), your drainage will slow also. Not very common, I have seen this happen.
  3. You may have tree roots growing into your main sewer line. You will most likely have to hire a professional to run a large snake to clear them.
  4. clean out your house trap thoroughly
