Public Comments

  1. yes. i did one for a guy last month. charity job. ew. yucky too. a friend witha backhoe is WAY cheaper.
  2. Is this the only quote you got? You should get three at least. Otherwise, it is hard to answer this since much of it depends on how far, how deep, obstacles in the way.
  3. Get some more bids. That ,or you are a long way from the main.Had to replace mine a year ago.Cost me $975 total parts and labor.Mine was about 35ft from the main.
  4. get a few different quotes...does it have to go as far as the main? can u just replace whats in the yard.?..why does this have to be done?
  5. If you live in a small town the plumbers know they can really take you to the cleaners. If you have a friend that is handy & you know how to use a shovel. It may save you a couple thousand.
  6. This is actually called your lateral line...and why are you having to replace it all? Is it damaged or clogged? Pricing is determined on how far the run is, how deep it has to be buried, if you have to go through, around or under objects and how it is connected to the main line. Best bet is to have someone fix the line that is already in the ground if possible. At the very least you need to get a couple more estimates.
  7. Depends on how far/deep,is a tree in the way.Almost all of the cost is in the digging and backfilling.Get another quote or get 6 shovels and 6 day hires (if you speak spanish) and do it yourself (or price a trencher rental).
  8. My husband and I dug up about 40 feet of line (with shovels) that had been invaded by tree roots and replaced it. It cost us $250 for all the parts and one day of hard labor but it saved us the low quote of $5500.
  9. Besure to check with the town you live in and see if you need a permit for it before you do your own work. They could give you a fine if you don't.
  10. Price is based on footage, depth, material required, depth of tap, cost of permit, cost of inspection, cost of engineering survey, cost of removal and transport of existing sewer. What type of material I am digging in also affects cost. More info is required for an accurate estimate. $4000.00 is not unusual. PS, you always need a permit for this type of work as you are installing a new line. Getting caught by a code officer or turned in by the neighbors is no fun. If caught you will be ordered to demolish and remove all work, you will be fined and you and the plumber you will then hire will be held rigidly to the plumbing code by the official. A sewer lateral is the section of pipe from your property line to the mainline sewer tap in the street. It is public property and the responsibility of the utility provider which you are not responsible for. The building sewer (the section between the property line and the structure) is owned and maintained by the property owner. It is private property, considered part of the house. Typically, a property line cleanout is installed by the homeowner at the property line. A house cleanout is also installed 2 feet from the building.
