Sewers

is it possible for gas in a sewer main to explode, causing a manhole cover to hit the bottom of a car...?

...at such speed that the bottom of the engine is ripped out and the car careens off the road and hits a tree?

  1. seriously, you're watching too much tv.
  2. maybe you were driving and a homeless guy who lives in the sewer was leaving his "apartment down under" and at that VERY MOMENT as he opened his "door" / Manhole cover....poof...!!!!! There goes the undercarraige. As for the engine..for it to be forced up hard enough to break the ........wow,..it's just not possible..to much stuff would fall out with it..and there are too many bars and bolts..to do that..there is no careening...that car is flipping over right there!
  3. It's been done before. Down in Mexico some years ago, a sewer exploded with such power that it destroyed much of a town there. Turns out the sewer had hydrocarbons in it, though, courtesy of Pemex. It wasn't like the sewer water blew up.
