new house in country and we have a sand sewer system???

I have never before heard of it before and was wondering if anyone else had and what it is and is it costly??? any help greatly appreciated, thanks:)

  1. This is probably something you would have wanted to check into BEFORE moving into your new house in the country. I have never heard of this type of septic system, and don't really understand how it might work, unless you actually have a septic tank and instead of a leach field you discharge into some type of sand bed. I would think the problem with this is the sand would become easily plugged and stop working. You would then have to dig up and replace the sand.
  2. never heard of it, maybe the sand is being used out in the leach field
  3. I've heard of septic tank systems called that in Florida. It means that the discharge area is in the sandy soil and perculates easily.
  4. the are called sand mound if it has a mound and a sand filter if it doesn't the tanks need to be pumped every three years and if it has a chlorine tank it has to be checked periodically if you have to install it could be costly but maintaining isn't too bad
