Can I produce my own septic system bacteria?
Septic system bacteria, such as Rid-X, is very expensive to use on a regular basis, so I was wondering if I can produce my own to put in my septic tank. Anyone know?

- Keep all soaps out of the tank as much as possible. And bleach. Then you don`t need as much rid-x as often. once a year.
- I put in a package of yeast in the toilet of my rental unit every six months to keep things working like they should. Works excellent. Buy at grocery store for $2.50. First time put in two pckgs and then one every six month. Just flush it!
- Yeast! That's a cheap packet of bacteria.
- When we had a new system put in the man said about a half a cup of baking soda twice a year was what he recommended.
- There is so much nonsense out there about septic tanks. Here is the dirty little truth, you don't need anything but your own crap. Yep that is the big secret. The bacteria in your gut that helps break down your food will keep on breaking down your poo even after it gets into the septic tank. In fact the bacteria will multiply and do it's magic down there. Just think about the fact that in the old days Rid-X had not been invented yet and all the old houses that had septic systems worked just fine. The one thing you don't want to do is put bleach or a lot of the antibacterial soap into the septic system. Bleach and those anti microbial soaps will kill some of the bacteria in the system.
