Sewers

My whole house smells like the sewer. I think it may be that the sewer pipe is clogged. What can I do???

It just smelled today. I woke up and the house smelled like the sewer. The basement's even worse. The sewer pipe water is coming out and there's water in some places in my basement. What can I do about this?? Is there anything i can do besides calling a plumber?? I don't have any pets at home, so can this still be toxic to humans??

4. You need a plumber. And yes sewer gas can make you sick.

You need to get a plumber or other compitent person to find the cause...could be storm drains backing up...is it coming in from a floor drain or sump pit ???If its the sewer is it coming back into a bath,sink or toilet ???If there is a block it will have to be cleared,but if you have a backup from a municipal system you may want to look into a backflow preventer (one way valve)Get it fixed asap so you don't get damage and bad things like mould...
6. The first thing you should do is have your septic tank pumped. It sounds like it is full of solids and waste is backing up into your house. Look in your local yellow pages.
7. if you see water backing up in the basement even though you are not using any water in the basement, just tell everyone not to use the water in the house, this will stop any flooding issues. DO NOT call a plumber, call a sewer and drain company. Sewer and drain uncloggers will charge less than a plumber. Sewer back up is different than actual "plumbing" issues.
