why do they pump nitrogen into the sewers in mannhattan, ny?

there were to large nitrogen tanks running into the sewers. what for?

1. I believe what your seeing is the power or phone service. They us Nitrogen to keep moisture out of the lines. If the sewer dept. use it. it's to help with the explosive factor. Sewer gases or explosive. .
